Happy National Chocolate Macaron Day

Chocolate MacaronThis may come as a surprise, but today, June 3, is National Chocolate Macaron Day. Or it may be National Chocolate Macaroon Day, and Saturday, May 31, was National Chocolate Macaron Day.

Or maybe they were both in March. There seems to be some confusion on the subject, as nobody is quite sure who started the whole idea of a national macaron day in the first place (Google can only take you so far).

This is all pretty understandable considering there’s some confusion over the difference between a macaron and a macaroon anyway.

We know what you’re thinking, “macaron has one less ‘o.’”

Well, yes, but it goes deeper than that even though both types of delicious cookies essentially are named from the same French word.

And, as you might guess, they’re pretty close in how they are made.

Macaroons, long a favorite at the South Jersey Shore, are basically a baked meringue cookie with a chewy topping.

Macarons—a specialty at Borgata Baking Company—are a kind of a baked meringue cookie sandwich with a chewy butter-cream-type filling.

And they both come in chocolate among a ton of other varieties.

Macarons take a little more technical expertise to pull off, but at this point, who really cares? They’re just great cookies and Borgata Baking Company is the best place in Atlantic City to try them.

Under the direction of Borgata’s Executive Pastry Chef Thaddeus DuBois, the Baking Company’s macarons come in a great variety and set off the menu of sweets and eats as the perfect place for a nosh—especially if you have a sweet tooth.

So maybe it is National Marcaron Day or maybe it’s Macaroon Day or maybe it just a beautiful day in June.  Whatever it is, it’s always the perfect time for a tasty macaron at Borgata Baking Company.
