I never had a straight razor face shave before, primarily because I shave using my old trusty blades every morning. But also, let’s just admit it: I was slightly taken back by the notion of the straight razor. I guess I’ve watched Sweeney Todd one too many times! Fear factor aside, I wasn’t quite sure how I’d feel about a blade coming that close to my face: would the entire process feel uncomfortable?
However, after my experience at Borgata’s Barbershop getting a Signature Shave, all that changed. My face never felt as smooth and looked as clean as it was after leaving the Borgata Barbershop, and all the straight razor fear was unwarranted. In fact, the entire process, even the actual shave, was extremely relaxing, almost meditative.
The treatment began after my stylist made sure I was fully comfortable in the chair. A warm towel was placed on my face to start the process. Then, the stylist applied a mild exfoliant to really loosen up any stubborn hairs. Afterwards, my face was massaged with pre-shave oil to help the razor glide more efficiently and affectively.
Then came the point of no return: the straight razor. My fears were quickly diminished once my stylist began the shave. After a liberal application of shaving cream, the razor effortlessly breezed through even my most stubborn stubble. I was amazed at how comfortable the entire process was. In fact, with my eyes closed, I felt like I could have even nodded off.
After my shave was complete, a hydrating mineral mask was applied to help replenish any moisture that was lost during the process. After a warm towel was applied to remove the mask, an ice-cold cloth woke up my entire face. A generous dose of post-shave moisturizers helped calm any inflamed spots (although there really weren’t many to speak of).
All-in-all, the entire shave, from the first warm towel to the moisturizers at the end, took a little under an hour. The results couldn’t have been better: I could could not believe how smooth my face was. Even as a regular shaver, it was amazing how different this treatment was compared to my daily routine.
