Let’s face it: whether or not you believe in mediums, Theresa Caputo can put on a show.
And that’s exactly what she did at Borgata on Friday, July 22 at the sold-out Event Center. The star of Long Island Medium brought her signature blonde hair, long manicured nails, a sparkling rainbow-stripe dress, and her often times humorous and flamboyant personality to Atlantic City for an experience that’s hard to describe.
Caputo claims that she has been seeing and sensing “Spirit” since she was four years old, but that it took until she was in her 20’s that she could actually “communicate” with the dearly departed. Since her revelation, she’s made a career out of it: she’s written multiple bestselling books, toured the world with her live show Theresa Caputo: The Experience, and, of course, starred in TLC’s Long Island Medium.
If you’re looking for a feel-good, happy way to kick off the weekend, The Experience doesn’t quite fit that bill (despite Caputo’s crass jokes and her glitter-adorned Polaroid selfie camera that she uses throughout the show). There’s a lot of grief that’s explored in pretty explicit detail from audience members who have lost young children, partners, or loved ones in tragic ways. A crew of Caputo’s camera staff follow her around to zoom in on audience members who get “readings,” and the film is broadcast live on giant screens. Throughout the Event Center, there was plenty of crying as those in attendance explored everything from the color of lipstick used by a mortician during a funeral to a dead father visiting his three-year old daughter during a car ride.
Of course, there’s skeptics as to whether or not these spiritual readings are actually legitimate, but don’t tell that to the thousands who showed up to Borgata to get a first-hand experience of the Long Island Medium herself.
