The 2014 Borgata Poker Open is in the books and once again Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa proved that it simply has the best poker room in Atlantic City and on the East Coast.
More than $6.6 million in prize money was awarded over 24 main events including the massive World Poker Tour Championship that drew more than 1,200 players. Darren Ellis of Cherry Hill won the event—which will be coming to a TV near you as part of the WPT’s TV schedule—and $843,744.
It was Elias’ biggest tournament cash since he took a fifth place at the 2011 BPO Championship and about $230,000. The win takes his career earnings over $2.5 million.
You can retrace Elias’ win at our tournament blog.
Good news. Now you can Sit & Go – on the go. We’ve just added Sit & Go tourneys to our mobile app, so as long as you’re within New Jersey, you can hop into a Sit & Go on your iOS or Android device.
To get started, all you need is the latest version of BorgataPoker.com. If you’ve got an iPhone or iPad, just hit the App Store to grab the latest update. If you use an Android, head to BorgataPoker.com and look for the Android link to get started.
While Sit & Go games are great, we didn’t stop there. The new app also includes all these improvements:
- Seamless device transition, so you can move from one device to another and never miss a beat.
- Easy table filtering and quick play options to help you find the game you want to play, quickly and easily.
It’s September, and across the country colleges are back up and running for a new semester. That’s classes, exams, dissertations and long discussions on the existential nature of mankind.
Of course, there’s also a lot of friends, parties and general fun having, which, who knows?, may very well be the existential nature of mankind in the first place. You know, life’s a party.
We at Borgata Nightlife can’t tell you if all of life’s a party, but it certainly helps spruce up the last summer weekend of the season. So, this Saturday, September 20, we’re having a Back to School Party at our nightclubs MIXX and mur.mur.
That includes a $1,000 giveaway—$500 each at each club—to, you know help with books and other college essentials. (You must have a My Borgata Card to enter. See a nightlife representative at the club to apply.)
Music will be presented by Jesse Marco at mur.mur and Anthony Pisano at MIXX.
The $3 Million Guaranteed Borgata Poker Open Championship, which kicked off Sunday, September 14, continues to make its mark in World Poker Tour history attracting the third largest field ever for a WPT event.
The final entries came in at 1,226, beating last year’s Borgata Poker Open Championship field of 1,189 entries. That puts the prize pool at about $4 million, easily outdistancing the guarantee.
Play in Day 2 is underway and you can follow all the action live at our tournament blog.
In 1981, anyone who bragged of having a good record collection (yes, vinyl records still ruled) had a copy of Foreigner 4.
Cleverly titled as it was the fourth album from the British/American arena rock gods Foreigner, the album included some of the group’s most iconic hits including “Urgent”, “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “Juke Box Hero”.
An entire generation of air guitarists alone playing “Juke Box Hero” helped propel the album to more than 6 million copies sold in the U.S. and a 10-week stint at No. 1 on the album charts (which was a record for Atlantic Records artists). Worldwide, the album sold more than 9 million copies.
(Note for younger people: Music fans used to buy entire albums at once, which came in a cardboard sleeve. Or at least a cassette tape. No downloads.)
Those were heady days, and Foreigner and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa are bringing them back again with special October 3 & 4 performances of “The Best of Foreigner 4 & More,” an homage to the band’s most successful album ever. The shows will be held at Borgata’s Music Box.
The two shows are the last U.S. stop on Foreigner’s current tour before the band heads off to Europe. The band will debut an entirely new set consisting of the best of Foreigner 4 along with several other chart hits.

Contrary to what you may have been hearing, Atlantic City is alive and kicking and ready to celebrate the end of summer with its 3rd Annual Atlantic City Seafood Festival September 13 & 14.
September is always a great month in Atlantic City with beautiful weather and events such as the Borgata Poker Open and the Miss America Pageant underway. But the Seafood Festival celebrates one of Atlantic City’s 365 days a year, 24/7 attractions—namely unbelievable seafood and dining experiences.
So it should come as no surprise that the fine dining leader (casual dining as well) in Atlantic City, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, will be right there at the festival offering up some delectable dishes from our line-up of celebrity chefs and fine restaurants.
The festival may be across town at Bader Field, but we’ve got trucks and portable kitchen equipment, so no worries.
Here’s a look at what you can experience at Borgata’s booth:
The 2014 Borgata Poker Open has started out with another amazing turn-out for its opening event as 4,158 entries were made in Event 1 to start two and a half weeks of tournament action.
That’s better than $2 million on the line for one event and millions more spread over 50 events from September 2 to September 19, including the $3 million guaranteed WPT Borgata Open Championship starting September 14.
But even with thousands of grinders vying for all that cash, there’s one thing poker players are always ready to do—and that’s give a little back to the community.
So this year’s Borgata Poker Open features two charity events with one honoring a long-time friend of Borgata Poker—and the poker world in general—and the other from the newly formed Charity Series of Poker.
Event 14, September 12, is the inaugural Mike Sica Memorial Seniors Tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Sica passed away in November at age 69 from cancer. A WSOP Bracelet holder and a fixture at Borgata poker events, Sica was an East Coast pro known for his big heart, easy smile, trademark coordinated outfits and ever-present container of toothpicks.
