Did you ever wish you could sit in on a meeting of Hollywood producers when they’re being pitched movie ideas?
You have to figure that sometimes, it would be pretty ridiculous.
Like say when Seth MacFarlane pitched the idea for the 2012 hit movie “Ted.”
“It’s about this little boy who makes a wish and his teddy bear comes to life. No, really, but the movie’s about years later when they grow up and now Ted is a hard-partying, hard-swearing, wickedly funny sidekick to the guy. And that’s messing stuff up with his girlfriend …”
You have to figure the producer who backed that was a little like the guy who ate the first raw oyster—guts enough to take a big risk and then got a big reward.
“Ted” became a colossal hit, has already spawned a sequel and had millions of people looking at their stuffed animal toys in a new light (not to mention the 1980 cult classic film “Flash Gordon”).
For Aristocrat Games, however, pitching the idea of a slots game based on “Ted” was probably a no brainier and we here at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa were pretty quick to add it to our line-up of Borgata slots.
Playing the slot, you can expect all the themes so delicately brought up in the film, including these bonus features:
The 2016 entertainment schedule for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is filling up and we’re announcing three upcoming shows, all of which will see tickets go on sale Friday, January 15.
Franki Valli 4/8 & 4/9 Music Box
Foreigner 5/7 Event Center
Tony Orlando 5/13 Music Box
Franki Valli, of course, is a long time staple at Borgata. Valli came to fame in 1962 as the lead singer of the Four Seasons and immediately became known for his falsetto vocals. A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Valli scored 29 Top 40 hits with The Four Seasons, one Top 40 hit under The Four Seasons’ alias ‘The Wonder Who?’, and nine Top 40 hits as a solo artist.
Valli’s number-one hits included “Sherry” (1962), “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (1962), “Walk Like a Man” (1963), “Rag Doll” (1964) and “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” (1975). As a solo artist, Valli scored number-one hits with the songs “My Eyes Adored You” (1974) and “Grease” (1978).
Tony Orlando is another regular performer at Borgata. Orlando scored solo hits in the 1960s such as “Halfway to Paradise” and “Bless You,” but rose to superstardom as part of Tony Orlando and Dawn in the 1970s. Their hits included “Candida”, “Knock Three Times”, and “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree.”
The answer to that question probably isn’t what you would expect. So what is the first thing a poker player does after winning a million dollars?
You get to take pictures. A LOT of pictures. Pictures of you alone, pictures of you with the trophy, pictures of you with money, pictures of you with the dealers and floor staff, pictures with family, pictures with friends, pictures with WPT sponsors (in this case Monster headphones and Hublot), and pictures with anyone else who wants a picture.
I honestly didn’t think of it nor expect it. It took a bit of the intensity off; and by the time I was done with all the pictures and interviews the initial shock had at least initially worn off. The next thing to do is an obvious one: Celebrate!!!
After blowing off some steam and relaxing for a bit, I headed to the beautiful Bobby Flay Steak at Borgata. About 20-25 of my good friends, family and a few acquaintances gathered together for good food and good times. After that, we headed to a pool party with the gang. Most of us ended up in the pool, and while none of us ended up sober, no one got out of control. In fact, it was one of the best nights of my life – which just so happened to cap off the best day of my life, and I’ll never forget it!!
“Offering access to your favorite mobile apps, the capability of electronic Trailer Sway Control* and generous appointments throughout, the seven-passenger GX does one thing exceptionally well: everything.”
OK, that’s straight from Lexus about their GX SUV and it sounds pretty cool.
So cool, in fact, that Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa wants you to have one. On Sunday, January 17 we’ll be giving away a Lexus GX every two hours from noon to 8pm in our Lexus GX Sweepstakes. Just Insert your My Borgata card into any slot machine or open a table games rating from 10 A.M. – 7:30 P.M. on January 17 for your chance to be one of five lucky winners taking home a brand new Lexus GX.
Does that whet your appetite? Well, here’s a little more about the Lexus GX in case you’re still on the fence about taking a trip to Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa January 17.
I am fortunate to play the game that I love at some of the best venues in the world. Poker has also provided me with many incredible opportunities. This year I had the amazing opportunity to help prepare a man for the self-proclaimed “biggest moment” of his entire life (he’s allowed to say that since he doesn’t have children and isn’t married).
Neil Blumenfield, an enthusiastic 62 year-old poker amateur who is known for his signature fedora, had just been let go from his job and was wondering what direction his life would take him when suddenly he found himself third in chips with nine players left playing for $7.7 million at the final table of the WSOP main event. Although it was obviously a dream-come-true for him, he knew that he was going to be up against much more experienced opponents playing for millions of dollars. Blumenfield immediately set out to find the right people to help prepare him for this final table battle.
I didn’t know Neil before he found himself in that position, but two years prior our mutual friend Amir Lehavot was also fortunate enough to find himself in the same position of having a big stack and playing in what is nothing short of a poker player’s Super Bowl. Amir came to me to help organize a live simulation of the final table at my house in Las Vegas, where we replicated the stacks of the players at the final table and did our best to mimic the plays we thought each player we were representing would make. We would show our cards after each hand and have a group discussion about the hand with several of the top poker pros in the game. Amir ended up finishing in third place and winning $3.3 million that year. He said the “live sim” helped him predict some dynamics that would develop, strategize and counter-strategize, and made him feel a lot more at ease when he returned to play that November.
Even we here at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa have to get a kick out of our own slot machines as we bring you the big Borgata online winners for December 28 – January 3.
For example, Edward from Woodbury Heights was the big jackpot winner for the week at BorgataCasino.com scoring a $7,706.60 jackpot on the Mini Goingnuts slots. Sounds pretty maximum to us, but hey, it’s the Mini Goingnuts slots.
And once again the Looten Khamun slots paid out another better than $5,000 jackpot. Try getting that out of a real Egyptian mummy.
Our big winner for the week, however, came at BorgataPoker.com where the Sunday guaranteed $50K paid the winner Bobby_Digital $13,400.
We get a kick out of our poker winners as well. Our players just get a kick out of winning.
Here’s a look at the big online winners for December 28 – January 3:
Welcome to the new OUT at Borgata blog! My name is Bryan and I’m excited to be curating the content of this area for our readers. We’ll be bringing you not only great behind-the-scenes previews of entertainment, dining, and experiences at Borgata, but also some wonderful stories of local LGBT organizations and leaders in the region who are making a real impact.
A bit about me: I grew up in New Jersey and currently live in Center City Philadelphia where I write on the arts for a number of local and national publications. I’ve also covered gay news for over two years and have become quite familiar with a number of people, places, and things that are noteworthy for LGBT folks. Additionally, I am a professor of communications in South Jersey, so I am quite plugged in to the region. In my spare time, you’ll find me enjoying the performing arts (opera is my guilty pleasure), practicing yoga, traveling, and enjoying good meals and mixology.
2016 is here. And it’s going to be pretty amazing.
There was a time when just the thought of the year 2016 sounded pretty futuristic. We all expected to be driving flying cars and zapping up whole turkey dinners in our hydrators.
Instead, it’s another new year after a busy holiday season that’s left us with tired feet, knotted up shoulders and flaky skin. And we had to cook the turkey.
What’s so amazing about that? Well, Borgata’s Spas are what.
Our January Spa Specials offer the perfect start to the New Year and promise to massage, exfoliate and hydrate (see?, Futuristic) you back into shape.
This month we’re also offering a new hair ritual from Kerastase and euphoric foot runs. That’s right, euphoric.
Here at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, we’re ready to help you start the New Year in style, help you keep that resolution to take better care of yourself and let you enjoy some much-deserved pampering.
2016 is looking pretty amazing.
Here’s our January specials at Spa Toccare and Immersion Spa:

At this point, it’s pretty much agreed by the world that chocolate goes with everything. We can eat chocolate at any meal and in any combination.
We’ve covered every nut and fruit with chocolate, every sweet, chewy center we could think of and anything else that wasn’t moving. You can even get chocolate covered bacon.
But there is one area of chocolate matching that might surprise you—and that’s with wine. You’re probably aware of dessert wines, but even so, you might still think of wine and chocolate as strange palate fellows.
Well, then we have an event for you.
The Savor Borgata Series presents Wine and Chocolate, Perfect Companions on Saturday, February 13 at 11:30 am at 28 West, just in time for your Valentine’s Day meal.
Explore the savory side of chocolate with a five-course lunch featuring Brix Chocolate for Wine, the first chocolate specifically blended to complement wine.
Brix Chocolate for Wine covers all of your favorite chocolate types from milk chocolate to dark.
