Ah Tuesday. It’s the third day of the week and the second day of the work week.
But that’s not why it’s called Tuesday. The name actually come from a Viking god of war named Tiw, so it’s Tiw’s day. Kind of like Thursday is named after Thor and so on.
In Latin the name was associated with the Roman god Mars, so that’s why in Spanish its Martes. Because Spanish is a Latin-based language.
More than you wanted to know?
Well, we just mention it because Tuesday has another meeting this October at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. In simple terms it’s just the greatest weekday ever to win big and party with us here in Atlantic City.

Did you ever watch cowboys play poker in an old western on TV?
Hand after hand after hand they sit there playing draw poker—one kind of poker until the cows come home (That’s a cowboy pun).
Maybe they were purists, or just didn’t have much imagination, but you have to figure that after about a gazillion hands, those cowpokes would have liked a little variety in their games.
Forward to the 21st century and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
One kind of poker? Please.
In the Borgata Poker Room you can play Hold’em, Omaha and all the variations of H.O.R.S. E. while on the casino floor there’s 20 different types of video poker and eight types of table game poker.
Check out Borgata’s three card poker Royal Millionaire promotion.
We’ve added yet another table poker game in Criss Cross Poker—one of the most unique types of poker you’ll find on any casino floor.
You probably know this form of the game from your poker nights with friends. Well, assuming you and your friends are the more adventurous kind of cowboys.
The 2014 Borgata Poker Open is in the books and once again Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa proved that it simply has the best poker room in Atlantic City and on the East Coast.
More than $6.6 million in prize money was awarded over 24 main events including the massive World Poker Tour Championship that drew more than 1,200 players. Darren Ellis of Cherry Hill won the event—which will be coming to a TV near you as part of the WPT’s TV schedule—and $843,744.
It was Elias’ biggest tournament cash since he took a fifth place at the 2011 BPO Championship and about $230,000. The win takes his career earnings over $2.5 million.
You can retrace Elias’ win at our tournament blog.
The $3 Million Guaranteed Borgata Poker Open Championship, which kicked off Sunday, September 14, continues to make its mark in World Poker Tour history attracting the third largest field ever for a WPT event.
The final entries came in at 1,226, beating last year’s Borgata Poker Open Championship field of 1,189 entries. That puts the prize pool at about $4 million, easily outdistancing the guarantee.
Play in Day 2 is underway and you can follow all the action live at our tournament blog.
The 2014 Borgata Poker Open has started out with another amazing turn-out for its opening event as 4,158 entries were made in Event 1 to start two and a half weeks of tournament action.
That’s better than $2 million on the line for one event and millions more spread over 50 events from September 2 to September 19, including the $3 million guaranteed WPT Borgata Open Championship starting September 14.
But even with thousands of grinders vying for all that cash, there’s one thing poker players are always ready to do—and that’s give a little back to the community.
So this year’s Borgata Poker Open features two charity events with one honoring a long-time friend of Borgata Poker—and the poker world in general—and the other from the newly formed Charity Series of Poker.
Event 14, September 12, is the inaugural Mike Sica Memorial Seniors Tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Sica passed away in November at age 69 from cancer. A WSOP Bracelet holder and a fixture at Borgata poker events, Sica was an East Coast pro known for his big heart, easy smile, trademark coordinated outfits and ever-present container of toothpicks.
At this point, the Borgata Poker Open, scheduled for September 2 – 19, doesn’t need all that much of a publicity push.
If you play live poker, you know what the Borgata Poker Open is. It’s simply the biggest poker event on the East Coast, a record setter for the World Poker Tour and one of the most anticipated two and half weeks of poker anywhere.
For grinders, it’s really all about scheduling the tournaments you want to play.
Online registration is open for all main events, so let’s look at that schedule.
The Open begins September 2 with Event 1, a $2 million guaranteed, $500 + $60 opening event that includes five opening sessions split between September 2 – 4. The first event of the Borgata Poker Open is always the most well attended and the Borgata Poker Room has been adding opening sessions to accommodate the huge field for the last few years.
