“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”
Did you know that laughing is good for more than just fun? It’s got some serious health boosting benefits!
Get it—laughter?—serious? Har har har.
Ok so that was a corny pun, but there is evidence that filling your days and nights with more laughter could add years to your life. And that’s no joke!
Here’s 3 reasons why laughing truly is the best medicine:
1. It lowers your blood pressure
Laughter has been shown to not only lower blood pressure, but also boost blood flow. Both of these factors contribute to decreased risks of stoke and heart attack.
2. It reduces stress
There is evidence that the levels of stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine tend to decrease during and immediately after bouts of laughter. Generally, lower levels of these hormones indicate lower levels of stress and anxiety, and a stronger immune system.
3. It burns calories
Ok, so it’s not exactly a substitute for the gym, but laughing does get your heart pumping enough to burn a similar amount of calories per hour as slow walking. Either way, it’s more calories than you’ll burn by sitting still. Plus, it works your abs!
Have you laughed today? You might want to think about an upcoming trip to Atlantic City’s most happening comedy club to laugh and live it up! After all, it’s an investment in your health!
