Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot Hits For $221,000

May 30, 2014 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

The Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has hit for $221,518. The hit came at 1pm May 29 at a $1/$2/No Limit table in the Borgata Poker Room.

Famed comedian and actor George Burns won the bad beat when his straight flush of hearts, three to the seven, was tripped up by Larry Small’s heart straight flush from the five to the nine.

Isn’t that always the way?

Ok, it’s possible—make that absolutely positive—that this George Burns isn’t that George Burns who appeared in all those movies and TV shows. Especially, since that George Burns passed away in 1996 at the age of 100.

This George Burns, however, wins a nice $88,608 jackpot for suffering the bad beat while Small wins $44,304 for winning the hand.

Seven other players win $12,658 just for being at the table.

The Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has paid out $1.2 million in 2014 on 12 hits.

The full jackpot reset to $149,575 with the Small Bad Beat Jackpot at $37,394. The $50K Bad Beat Jackpot Frenzy will restart when the small Bad Beat Jackpot reaches $50,000 again.

Bay Atlantic Symphony Music Series at Borgata Music Box

May 28, 2014 by Carie York Leave a Comment

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has been Atlantic City’s leading casino hotel for more than a decade and that includes on the concert stage as we bring a host of national and international entertainment acts to the area.

This summer alone Borgata will bring acts like Santana, Avril Lavigne and Keith Urban to the Borgata Event Center.

But no matter how big we get on the national concert circuit, Borgata remains first and foremost a South Jersey institution committed to the region’s budding art scene.

In 2008, Borgata began a relationship with the Bay Atlantic Symphony, South Jersey’s home orchestra dedicated to bringing classical music to the southern New Jersey shore. The Bay Atlantic Symphony has been a pioneer in community-based classical orchestras, bringing performances, educational programs and lecture series to much of South Jersey.

Borgata’s partnership with the symphony continues in 2014 with the second Bay Atlantic Concert Series at Borgata’s Music Box.

Three concerts are scheduled this summer on July 13, August 3 and August 17.

And, as has become the tradition, the series starts off with a bang as the symphony brings in renowned pianist Yuja Wang to lead off the series on July 13.

The symphony based in Bridgeton and Atlantic City—thanks to Borgata and the symphony’s longstanding relationship with the Stockton Performing Arts Center in Galloway Township—has a long tradition of hooking up with major classical artists from Philadelphia and around the mid-Atlantic region for performances.

Yuja WangYuja Wang is one of the most exciting, in-demand young pianists in the country. The Detroit News called her “simply the most important pianist to appear in recent years, period,” and she has appeared with major symphony orchestras around the world.

She’s also made several top-selling recordings for Deutsche Grammphon, collaborating with such conductors as Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Kurt Masur, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Sir Andrew Davis.

At the July 13 Borgata appearance with the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, she will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s exciting, virtuoso Piano Concerto No. 1, a piece she will later perform with Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

But Borgata audiences will hear it first.

“We are truly honored and privileged to have an artist of the caliber and world-wide reputation of Yuja Wang joining us for this concert series. People have heard her bring down the house in concerts and broadcasts with the orchestras in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Cleveland, Lucerne and elsewhere. Now they have a chance to hear her here,” said Bay-Atlantic Symphony Executive Director Paul Herron. “The concept of taking the great classical masterpieces into a casino showroom worked so well last year that Borgata is bringing us back. We are constantly trying to find new, exciting ways to present classical music and to build on our established partnerships.”

Each of the three concerts, conducted by Bay Atlantic Symphony Music Director Jed Gaylin, feature emerging solo artists. Here’s the full concert list.

July 13—Yuja Wang highlights a concert devoted to musical humor with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C minor, Op. 35. The concert will also feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s Beethoven: Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21.

August 3—Two of the beloved late works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will share the program—his Symphony No. 39 in e-flat major, K.543 and the Clarinet Concerto in A major, K.622. The concerto will feature the Bay-Atlantic Symphony’s dynamic principal clarinetist, Christopher Di Santo, as soloist.

August 17—In a musical tour to faraway lands, the orchestra will start in 13th-century Sicily for the rousing overture to Giuseppe Verdi’s opera I Vespri Siciliani. Alexander Borodin’s romantic In the Steppes of Central Asia, with melodies familiar from the musical Kismet, takes us to that nomadic part of the globe. The sharp-edged sounds of the North are portrayed in Jean Sibelius’ bold Finlandia. Johannes Brahms’ powerful, sublime Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 will feature the artistry of internationally-acclaimed violinist Caroline Goulding.

All concerts will be on Sundays at 5pm. Tickets are $25 and are on sale now. For tickets, call Borgata’s box office at (866) 900-4849 or go click here.

For more information on this and other Bay-Atlantic Symphony concerts and programs, call the Symphony at (856) 451-1169 or visit their website at www.bayatlanticsymphony.org.

You can never be completely sure when a poker celeb is going to show up in the Borgata Poker Room.  From James Woods to Brad Garrett and Michael Phelps—not to mention virtually every poker pro you’ve ever heard of—celebs have always been seen in the poker room grinding away.

Boomer Esiason and Craig CartonBut here’s a chance to know when the celebs will be there as former NFL’er Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton of WFAN sports radio in New York host the WFAN $20,000 Guaranteed Tournament June 6 starting at 11am in the Borgata Poker Room.

The Re-entry, No-limit Hold’em tournament carries a $300 + $40 buy-in and starts players with 20K in chips. Antes kick in at Level 5 and levels last 30 minutes. Get structure here.

On-Site Registration begins Friday, June 6 from 9am until the end of Level 6. Re-entries are allowed through Level 6.

Borgata’s Spas Complete Your Stay

May 23, 2014 by Jen Jones Leave a Comment

Did you ever think about Borgata’s full name, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa?

Sure, Borgata casino is No. 1 in Atlantic City as are our great hotel rooms at Borgata and The Water Club. But so many things could have filled in that last spot after “&.”

We could be Borgata Hotel Casino & Cool Restaurants, many run by world-famous celebrity chefs. Or maybe Borgata Hotel Casino & Great Nightlife at our hot nightclubs MIXX and mur.mur plus all the other great Borgata venues such as Gypsy bar.

Then again, it could be Borgata Hotel Casino & Event Center where the best entertainment acts in Atlantic City play.

No, we went with Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

And it’s no wonder.  With Spa Toccare and the Immersion Spa on property, no stay at Borgata is complete without a little decompression time and some first class pampering.

spa_toccareBorgata’s spas offer you the chance to melt your tensions away and get a little sparkle in your eyes and a lilt in your step through our series of special spa treatments that cover everything from facials and mud floats to full massages.

But it’s not just about exfoliating (or foliating for that matter).

For many guests, it’s about working up a sweat and pumping up the body first. And then, after all the sets are done and you’ve run out all the kinks, finding that perfect atmosphere to wind down.

At Spa Toccare, the workout comes in the Spa’s Pump Room, Borgata’s hi-tech gym equipped with personal cardio stations with individual viewing screens to keep you entertained. Afterwards, wind down at Tocarre’s pool and gardens.

The Immersion Spa at The Water Club gives you a chance to jog and have that cardio workout on the 33rd floor Fitness Center with panoramic views of Atlantic City and the shore. This techno-gym also offers the latest in cardio and strength machines.

Then, wind down in Immersion’s 80′ indoor, infinity-edge Lap Pool and co-ed whirlpool.

Borgata’s spa etiquette guide—filled with helpful hints such as please wear clothes (don’t worry, we provide robes)—will help you navigate your way through all Borgata’s spas have to offer.

After all, it is Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

There’s also an Atlantic City getaway up for grabs and tons of other promotions, so read on before you decide to take off for the weekend.

Win an Atlantic City Getaway
Who says you have to play casino games to win big? A free entry into our draw is yours the second you register, so do it now for your chance to win.

Blackjack Splitting Explained
When you play at Borgata in Atlantic City, most of the Blackjack dealers will tell you the best move you can make based on the hand you’re holding. But when you play online, you’re pretty much on your own. Knowing when to hit or stand is one thing, but figuring out when to split can be confusing. As a general rule, always split Aces and 8s. Never split 4s, 5s or 10s, unless you really feel like gambling. Splitting 9s is OK, as long as you’re not facing off against a 7, 10 or Ace. You can split 2s, 3s, 6s and 7s when going up against a 2 through 7. If you’ve got a 6 or a 7 and you’re facing off against a 7 or an Ace, go ahead and hit.

While these are great tips, you might want to develop your own style of play. Remember, our advice doesn’t guarantee you’ll win. Sometimes going against the rules could lead to a major victory. If you’ve got a gut feeling, it doesn’t hurt to go for it. We recommend practicing your game for free first. Your BorgataCasino.com account gives you access to the free tables, so create an account and have a blast without the risk.

When you’re ready to win for real, don’t forget to take advantage of our 100% deposit bonus. And remember, we’re the only casino with a 1x wagering requirement, so there aren’t any crazy hoops to jump through to get your hands on your bonus cash.

Savor Borgata Culinary Series Visit Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay in June

May 21, 2014 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa changed dining in Atlantic City forever by bringing some of the most renowned and celebrated chefs in the U.S. to the resort to open the best fine-dining restaurants on the Eastern Seaboard.

And few are as celebrated as Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay.

Wolfgang Puck’s American Grille and Bobby Flay Steak have been staples at Borgata since the property opened in 2003, serving thousands of meals and making Borgata a must-visit stop for foodies everywhere.

But at Borgata, we do much more than just let you enjoy a meal at our celebrity chef’s bistros. We bring them to you up close and personal—or at least their food.

Two major events are on the Savor Borgata Culinary Series this June with Puck and Flay.

Wolfgang PuckFirst up is a special lunch and book signing with Wolfgang Puck on June 14. The day starts with Lunch with Wolfgang Puck at noon followed at 3pm with a Wolfgang Puck Book Signing as he signs his cookbook Wolfgang Makes it Healthy. Both events will be held at the American Grille.

The lunch is a dine-around affair with live cooking stations.

Tickets for the lunch are $79* and available here. For the book signing, copies of Wolfgang Makes it Healthy will be available for $30.

Bobby FlayNext up in June is the Bobby Flay Kentucky Bourbon Dinner at 6pm June 23 where Flay presents a menu inspired by Knob Creek Bourbon, one of the Jim Beam Distilleries’ celebrated high-end bourbons.

The dinner, at Bobby Flay Steak, features select bourbon pairings to go with Flay’s classic American cuisine.

Pairings such as lobster and smoked bacon bits with Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve or crispy preserved duck salad with Knob Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon will be offered. The main course is Lexington style beef tenderloin paired with Knob Creek Rye Whiskey and there’s even a dessert pairing as Flay puts chocolate espresso bread pudding with Knob Creek Maple whiskey. Full menu here.

The evening will be hosted by Jim Beam ambassador Adam Harris who has been sharing stories and promoting Beam’s bourbons in the U.S., Mexico and Canada since 2006. He’s so good at it, in 2010 he was named a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of the Commonwealth.

Tickets for the Bobby Flay Kentucky Bourbon Dinner are $100* and available here. As a special bonus, participants receive an engraved flask.

Wolgang Puck, Bobby Flay Steak and Knob Creek Bourbon. The Savor Borgata Culinary Series gets tasty in June.

*Prices do not include tax and gratuity.

“Sweet & Whacky Edible Contraption” Marks Opening of the Borgata Baking Company

May 19, 2014 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

The countdown to Borgata Baking Company’s Grand Opening continues as the latest edition to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s culinary lineup is set for May 23.

And you can tell the celebration is underway with a quick look around Borgata’s Retail Piazza, where the Borgata Baking Company is setting up shop.

You see it in all the chocolate … lots of chocolate.

We’re talking nine-foot chocolate sculptures surrounded by carefully crafted chocolate flowers now on display at Borgata.

We call it the “Sweet & Whacky Edible Contraption” and it’s the handiwork of Borgata’s award-winning Executive Pastry Chef, Thaddeus DuBois.

For DuBois it’s another masterpiece from a guy who makes a lot of masterpieces. A former Executive Pastry Chef at the White House—during George W. Bush’s second term—Dubois’ mastery is seen throughout Borgata as he oversees pastry and bread production for both the AAA Four-Diamond Borgata and Water Club hotels including its in-room dining programs, banquets, catering and special events, in addition to the award-winning Borgata Buffet, Bread + Butter and Metropolitan Café.

Now he brings his expertise to the Borgata Baking Company which will serve innovative house-made “sweets and eats” from Dubois’s repertoire.

The $1.5 million concept will host its Grand Opening celebration on Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26 with a “Borgata Golden Chip” promotion. 500 prizes – including free cupcakes, scoops of gelato, Comp Dollars and the grand prize of $1,000 Slot Dollars – will be won by guests who purchase boxes of French Macarons during Memorial Day Weekend.

As for some of the other treats DuBois has lined up, well, there are classic desserts like Napoleons and Eclairs; fun pastries like Cake Pops, Whoopie Pies, and French Macarons; Pullman Sandwiches and warm breakfast pastries such as Cheesesteak Croissants; in addition to fresh-pressed juices, gluten-free and sugar-free options. Borgata Baking Company will also serve fresh gelato flavors prepared in-house by Chef DuBois’ team of culinary talents.

Come by and check it out — after all, there’s no reason not to start the sweet fun a little early.
