A lot of us that enjoy a casual glass of wine now and then know that there’s a lot more to the taste of the grape than we’ve taken in so far.
We hear our friends talking about bouquets and body and aftertastes and pairing with cuisine, but for us it’s pretty much red goes with meat, white with fish and sweeter wines can go with dessert.
And then we pick up a bottle of plonk because we like the picture on the bottle (that’s right, we went there with plonk).
But this doesn’t have to be you anymore. Vintage Wine Boutique at The Water Club is putting an educational twist on wine this summer with The Wine Classroom, a series of wine classes that takes an international trip around the wine drinking world. Discover a world of wine with Borgata’s wine professionals, learn about wine pairings and sample some exceptional varietals (Ha, varietals, we’re already learning).
The series opened June 25 with a look at French wines (French wines will be covered again August 13), but there’s still time to take in more classes. Subsequent classes cover everything from sparkling wines to fine rieslings. There’s even a class on esoteric wines, which is worth attending just to find out what esoteric means.
Here’s the full schedule:
Wednesday, July 30 – The Road Less Traveled featuring Esoteric Wines
Wednesday, August 6 – Exploring the World’s Great Rieslings
Wednesday, August 13 – Wines of France
Wednesday, August 20 – Wines of Italy
Wednesday, August 27 – Sparkling Wine from around the globe
Tickets are $25 and reservations can be made by calling 609-317-7778. Classes are from 4pm – 5pm every Wednesday.
Vintage also offers wine samplings every Saturday from 4pm to 7pm at its location at The Shoppes at The Water Club. Whether it’s in the Wine Classroom, at the tastings, or just shopping at Vintage, you’ll never encounter plonk.
OK, we give, plonk is cheapo quality wine (Classes just started and look how much we’ve learned).
