Tiesto at Borgata Event Center December 28

November 30, 2014 by Carie York Leave a Comment

Sometimes a DJ gets big—so big that a simple club can’t hold him. And that’s pretty much why Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will present Tiesto in the Borgata Event Center on December 28.

The Dutch spinner and record producer needs the biggest room he can find. After all, the guy once opened an Olympics.

TiestoYou may know him as DJ Tiesto or by his given name of Tijis Michiel Verwest or any of a bunch of other aliases. Now, he’s simply Tiesto, with a string of hits and appearances that have dominated the electronic dance music scene for more than 15 years.

In fact, Tiesto is more than a DJ and record producer. He’s his own brand. Just check out his resume—a Grammy nomination, numerous MTV awards, and performing at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Tiesto also has a globally syndicated Club Life Radio Show and his Club Life Podcast (#1 music podcast on iTunes globally) and has worked with superstars such as Kanye West, Coldplay, Gotye, Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Goldfrapp and many more.

Tiesto comes to Borgata with a new album A Town Called Paradise, out and with a tour—currently in Australia—that stops only three times in the U.S.  Borgata is Tiesto’s only East Coast stop.

And for Tiesto, it’s all about the live performance.

“I love to produce a track and then play it for the crowd, that’s the biggest kick for me.” He says.

But Borgata is offering you more than just the chance to see Tiesto perform. We’re also offering a chance to meet Tiesto with a special sweepstakes on our Borgata Nightlife Facebook Page. Just click here to enter.

Remember, in Atlantic City, only Borgata brings you the best—and biggest—DJs in the world.

Tickets for Tiesto are $79.50 and $89.50 and available here.

Flintstones Slot Debuts at Borgata

November 25, 2014 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

You probably think you live in the greatest Hi-Tech age of all time, what with the smartphones and cars that can find any address in the world.

But really, do you think it beats taking a shower as a Wooly Mammoth sprays water on you–from its trunk–or having a Dictaphone that’s pretty much just a really smart talking bird?

How about disc brakes? Why, when you can just use your feet? Commercial air travel? You haven’t lived until you’ve flown on a giant pterodactyl (complete with flight attendants).

Now that tech–Stone Age Tech.

We, of course, are talking about life in that crazy town of Bedrock with the lovable Flintstones clan, which will now be a regular on Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s casino floor thanks to a new slot machine from WMS Games.

The FlinstonesThe Flinstones—immortalized in breakfast cereal and vitamins—was the most successful animated prime-time series ever before The Simpsons began its 88-year run. It ran from 1960 to 1966 and then in reruns pretty much until now. Kind of a prehistoric “The Honeymooners,” it gave us the catch phrase Yaba Daba Doo, a 1994 film and a pretty great version of “Bedrock Twitch” from the B-52s.

Flinstones Slot MachineAnd now, it’s bringing you jackpots. The sights, sounds, and of course all of your favorite characters from THE FLINTSTONES television series make their debut on the Gamefield xD cabinet in this fresh take on the prehistoric wheel.

Featuring a 42” horizontal screen over a vertical 32” screen with a mechanical wheel, the 5×4 base game of THE FLINTSTONES theme features both a FLINTSTONES and a RUBBLES array. It only takes one character symbol landing on the 5th reel to activate one of the following bonuses.

Watch as Bamm Bamm bangs symbols to turn them WILD in the Bamm Bamm Bonus, as Dino jumps on Fred and licks him for additional credits in the Dino Bonus, and as reels stretch up to 10 symbols high as WILD reels and multipliers are potentially added in THE FLINTSTONES mystery feature. Pick the cutest baby to double your credit prize in the Pebbles beautiful baby contest, or pick bowling balls for credits in the Bedrock bowling feature.

And Borgata gets the slot as a national exclusive. It debuts this week on the casino floor in the slot area near MIXX.

There are some things you can count on with the Flintstones. Fred won’t get the cat to stay out for the night, Wilma will always forgive Fred and nothing in our high-tech world will ever be as cool as mowing the lawn with a chomping baby dinosaur on wheels.

And, oh yeah, it’s yet another cool slot at Borgata.

G Love & Special Sauce at Borgata’s Music Box January 3

November 24, 2014 by Carie York Leave a Comment

G. Love & Special SauceIt’s been 20 years since the Philadelphia trio of G. Love & Special Sauce first appeared on the music scene with their alternative hip hop, “sloppy” laid-back jazz sound.

Yeah, you read that right—alternative … hip hop … laid-back … sloppy … jazz.

Oh yeah, and they’re very bluesy. And there is a lot of classic R&B in their sound.

Let’s face it, there’s a lot going on musically when G. Love & Special Sauce jam. And there’s not a lot of bands out there that can pull off a combo like that, let alone make it for 20 years since the release of their first album, G. Love & Special Sauce, in 1994.

But in 2014, the band is back with a new album, Sugar, a hot new single, “Nothing Quite Like Home,” and are touring with their original line-up—Garrett “G Love” Dutton, Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens (drums) and James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott (bass)—for the first time in eight years.

The group hits Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on January 3 at The Music Box.

The first single off Sugar is “Nothing Quite Like Home,” a harmonica-laden tune released with a video directed by Grammy-winner Emmett Malloy.

“I had a good idea for a riff off an old hip hop sample which I changed up, flipped upside down and played with slide guitar,” G. Love tells Rolling Stone of the song. “We cut it live with the trio at Brushfire in L.A. and added the ‘B’ section and drum break. I had been talking to Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons earlier in the summer about working on something and I sent him the instrumental we cut. He penned the lyrics and sent back a real tight demo over the instrumental. Later I added my vocals and got a helping hand from two of my favorite singers – Ben Harper, who just brought the chorus to another level, and Marc Broussard, who added some nice backgrounds.”

Of course, on tour the group covers its whole history.

At a recent gig at the Chapel in San Francisco, the band played a loose set list that included “Baby’s Got Sauce” from the 1994 self-titled album, “Waiting” from 2004’s The Hustle and tracks such as “Come Up Man,” and “Nite Life,” from the new album. Two encores included “Mom’s a Surfer,” “Rhyme for the Summertime” and “Friday Night.”

Sooo, if you’re in the mood for some alternative hip hop, blues-laden, R&B-laced, sloppy, laid-back jazz played by one of the best party bands of the last 20 years, well, then hit The Music Box January 3 and dip yourself in G. Love & Special Sauce.

Tickets are $45 and $39.50 and available here.

Borgata Online Winners for November 10 – 16

November 21, 2014 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

Manalapan New Jersey is a great suburban town in Monmouth County. It is home to Monmouth Battlefield State Park (Revolutionary War battle, George Washington slept here) and most of all it’s fun to say—Ma – Nal – A – Pan.

And apparently, Manalapan also has some residents who are pretty good at playing online at BorgataCasino.com.

Just check out the big online winners at BorgataCasino.com and BorgataPoker.com for November 10 to 16 to see what we mean.

winner-blog3– On November 12, Adam from Rego Park, New York, won the nightly $10,000 Guaranteed Poker Tournament at BorgataPoker.com for a win of $2,344.

– On November 13, Jack from Manalapan, New Jersey, hit a $20,080 jackpot on his mobile device playing the Mini Aztec slots game on BorgataCasino.com.

– On November 14, Abraham from Manalapan, New Jersey, made a $3 Mega Match sidebet playing Sidebet Blackjack on BorgataCasino.com hoping his 2 cards would match the dealer’s exactly. And they did for a win of $15,000.

That’s better than $35K for Manalapan residents. Who knows? Maybe your town is lucky too.

A-Trak at MIXX November 29

November 20, 2014 by Carie York Leave a Comment

A-TrakAlan Macklovitch, better known as the master DJ A-Trak, has pretty much had things his own way since winning the DMC World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15. That’s what you call making a career entrance.

Since then, the question isn’t what has the 32-year-old DJ done, it’s what hasn’t he done?

Win all three major DJ competition titles (DMC, ITF and Vestax)? Did that.

Developed his own notation system for scratching? Did that

Started his own record label (Fool’s Gold Records)? Did that too.

Become the personal tour DJ for an act like Kanye West? Uh-huh.

Become a street-wear icon by collaborating with Nike, New Era, Kidrobot, Zoo York and pretty much every other designer getting any notice? Yep.

Produced a ton of hit singles and remixes? That too.

You may be noticing a trend here. Still, A-Trak hasn’t done everything—close, but not yet, However, he will be spinning at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa at MIXX along with Carlos Melange on November 29. The appearance comes just days after the scheduled release of his newest single, Push on November 25.

Known for merging the sounds of rap and electronic music, A-Trak is one of the most sought-after remixers in electronic music, and his remixes for the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Boys Noize have become mainstays for DJs the world over.

And now he plays MIXX, with a brand new single to boot.

So he can add another thing to his list of accomplishments. Throw the ultimate post-Thanksgiving party in Atlantic City—at Borgata.

Get advance tickets here.

November 19, 2014 by Jen Jones Leave a Comment

At Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, we know that even as our guests take in all we have to offer from great nightlife and dining to the best casino action on the East Coast, some of our guests just want to work.

And we’re not talking about their jobs.

Borgata Pump RoomWe’re talking about working your abs, your cardio system, your lats and everything else gym rats love to work. So at Spa Toccarre, Borgata provides guests with The Pump Room, a state-of-the-art hi-tech fitness center that offers the best workout you’ll find, the best fitness equipment available and the best overall experience complete with spectacular views of Atlantic City.

And if that’s not enough, we’re about to make The Pump Room better.

The Pump Room will be closed from December 1 to December 12 as it receives a major upgrade that will include installation of all new cardio equipment (from Life Fitness), a new stretching station and more.  The upgrade replaces much of The Pump Room’s original equipment form its opening 11 years ago.

And that’s not even mentioning a complete redecorating with new wall coverings, carpets and ceiling tiles.

Here’s a look at what we’re adding to The Pump Room.

  • 2 Powermill steppers (replacing the current Stair Steppers)
  • 6 Cross-trainers (ellipticals)
  • 2 Recumbent bicycles
  • 9 Treadmills (our most popular piece of equipment)
  • 1 Upright Bicycle
  • 2 Lifecycle Bicycles (spin bikes)

Life Fitness equipment comes with Discover Tablet Consoles that track your workout as well as offering entertainment through Apple, Android, the internet, games, music and more.

The Pump Room is also adding a TRUEStrecth training machine — one of the most effective pieces of equipment available for maximizing flexibility. The revolutionary TRUEStretch provides a dedicated, self-contained stretching area that gives users a safe platform for comprehensive stretching to increase flexibility and reduce the risk of injury. No more awkward stretching on the floor or leaning on other equipment not designed for stretching.

The TRUEStretch comes with a photo-illustrated display organized by muscle groups, and features 30 different stretching exercises.  All are designed to mimic real-life, real world stretches. TRUEStretch effectively stretches the body in all three planes of motion (front to back, side to side and rotational) while keeping the user in natural upright positions with four points of contact (both hands and both feet) for proper body alignment, stability and safety.

At Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, we know you take your workouts seriously.

So do we.

Thanksgiving Pies at Borgata Baking Co.

November 18, 2014 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, there’s actually some small controversies surrounding the unique and wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving.

Oh, sure we all know that the pilgrims and Native Americans got together about 1621 and celebrated a great feast and then watched some high school football before going out at midnight to get great bargains to start their Christmas shopping. And it was in 1863 that Abe Lincoln declared the first official national Thanksgiving Day along with the proclamation that the Detroit Lions always play a game on the holiday.

But to tell the truth, there’s a lot of controversy over that first Thanksgiving Day–especially the menu. The pilgrims probably ate some turkey, but venison (deer) was the likely main course along with a lot of seafood and also vegetables from their great harvest that year (which was the reason for the whole thing).

What’s not clear is if they had pie. Records show the pilgrims had access to a lot of wild fruits and berries growing around New England, but whether they baked them into a flaky crust and served them with coffee and ice cream is anybody’s guess.

Thanksgiving PiesThink of it—a pie-less Thanksgiving. Oh those poor, poor pilgrims.

Fortunately, we in the modern age don’t have to put up with that thanks to the Borgata Baking Co., which is offering up a special selection of Thanksgiving pies.

Ok, that was a long way to go to get to the pies, but, you know, these are really great pies. The Borgata Baking Co. is the brainchild of Borgata’s Executive Pastry Chef Thaddeus DuBois, a former White House Executive Chef under President George W. Bush; the president best known for really loving pie (or was that Bill Clinton?)

Anyway, The Borgata Baking Co. is presenting four freshly baked Thanksgiving pies—Apple Crumble, Pumpkin, Cherry and Pecan—for the amazing price of $10 ($12 for pecan). You can pre-order the pies through Monday November 24 and then pick them up starting at 11am Wednesday November 26 through 6pm Thanksgiving Day.

But that’s not all Borgata is contributing to Thanksgiving. Our great restaurants are also offering up some classic prix fixe Thanksgiving Day dinners that, in honor of those venison-eating pilgrims, feature the exotic main course of—Turkey.

Hey, we’re not pilgrims (they didn’t even know about pie, jeesh).

Whether it’s Maple Horseradish Glazed Turkey at Bobby Flay Steak or Roasted Turkey with traditional stuffing at The Metropolitan, Borgata’s chefs have put together they types of Thanksgiving Day dinners with all the fixings that would make any pilgrim swoon.

thanksgiving-diningThe prix fixe meals are priced at $29 and available at Wolfgang Puck American Grille, Bobby Flay Steak, Old Homestead Steakhouse, Fornelletto and The Metropolitan. Check out the menus here.

After all, wasn’t it the great pilgrim leader Miles Standish who said, “It was a good meal, but there was no grilled Turkey Kielbasa, which is always nice, and I’d have kinda liked some pie.”

Wouldn’t we all.
