Borgata Announces Festival Park Outdoor Concert Stage for Summer 2015

One of the great words in the English language is festival.

Sure, we all like a party, a gathering, a shindig, a hootenanny, but everybody really loves a festival. They’re just so much … bigger.

We have festivals of lights, of heritage, of various fruits and vegetables and most of all, we have outdoor music festivals.

And this summer, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is going to be festival central as we announce plans for a new outdoor concert venue scheduled to open this June.

That’s right. Borgata, already the leader in live casino concerts in Atlantic City is going full-on outdoor music festival crazy this summer.

And as a leader in entertainment—including Borgata’s partnership with Live Nation Entertainment, one of the best live concert promoters anywhere—we’re already working on a line-up of events that will take Borgata Entertainment to a new level.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to enhance and grow our already tremendous entertainment offerings through funding by the CRDA and a wonderful partnership with Live Nation,” said Tom Ballance, President and Chief Operating Officer for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. “Upon our entry into the market in 2003, Borgata set the bar for entertainment and nightlife in Atlantic City, so it is only appropriate that we raise it yet again with the addition of this substantial project.”

To be located at Borgata’s northeast entrance, Borgata Festival Park, an outdoor concert venue and festival grounds, will feature artists synonymous with Borgata’s reputation for bringing world-class musical acts to the Jersey Shore.

The inaugural concert will tentatively take place on Saturday, June 13th with multiple bands joining forces for an all-day outdoor celebration. Throughout the summer and early fall, a variety of well-known performers will grace the newly forged stage with announcements for the lineup coming later in March.

The venue will also feature some of the biggest DJ’s in the world with a series of day-life Electric Dance Music parties. Festival Park will also play a prominent role in the Savor Borgata Culinary Series, highlighting the city’s leading culinary destination by hosting food and beverage festivals throughout the year.

Entertainment has been of paramount importance for Borgata since igniting Atlantic City’s revival almost 11 years ago. Its partnership with Live Nation Philadelphia as the property’s exclusive booking company has brought the world’s biggest names in music such as The Who, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Sting, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, Imagine Dragons, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock to Borgata.

“We are looking forward to being a part of this new outdoor venue coming to Borgata,” said Geoff Gordon, Live Nation Philadelphia Regional President. “Borgata Festival Park will be another avenue to bring top-tier entertainment to Atlantic City and highlight all the city has to offer.”

Kathy Griffin at Borgata Event Center March 14

When it comes to stand-up comedians, you always kind of wonder what they’re going to talk about onstage.

You know, will it be that observational humor—What’s up with kitchen magnets?—or are they the storyteller kind of comic—One time I went to a Red Lobster with my friends and ordered chicken, well let me tell you.

Kathy GriffinWith Kathy Griffin, who appears at Borgata’s Event Center March 14, you know exactly what she’s going to talk about – celebrity dirt.

It is storytelling, but storytelling with backstage celebrity buzz and gossip … you know, the good stuff.

Fans of Griffin and her gazillion Bravo comedy specials—including her 2011 special “Tired Hooker“ filmed on location at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa—get the inside dirt on everything Griffin sees, hears and experiences as she works her way around Hollywood on the D-list.

Which makes it all the more interesting that she’s been mysteriously quiet on the recent controversy at–and now her decision to leave–E’s “Fashion Police.”

We don’t want to hit this too hard on our friendly little blog—you can Google it—but we just have to wonder, how long can Griffin ever stay quiet about anything?

Just saying.

For Griffin’s audiences, her act has always been a window into the celebrity world. Or in her own words (from Brainyquotes.com):

“I am an outsider looking in, absolutely,” Griffin says. “You’re not going to see me at the Academy Awards ‘Vanity Fair’ party any time soon. I’m not somebody who, no matter where I go, there are paparazzi or any of that nonsense. But I have a little window into that world, and I can enter it and dance around. I want to be the audience’s ticket into the party.”

“The great thing about celebrity culture is that they can’t seem to stop themselves from displaying their ridiculous behavior,” she says. “I feel it’s my job as a serious investigative journalist to witness all kinds of behavior and then report back to the audience through the prism of my own anger and bitterness.

Or more succinctly:

“I have no limits, no filter, no class, no poise. No decorum. Just fun.”

And that creates a storyteller that never runs out of stories … or good celebrity dirt.

Laidback Luke at MIXX March 20

Laidback LukeFor a guy who sports the name Laidback, veteran DJ Laidback Luke comes off as anything but.

Consider that he’s just released a new collaboration alongside Tujamo titled “S.A.X.”, just released a 2015 remix of his Mixmash Records classic “Rockin with the Best” and is currently on a world tour—a tour that comes to Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa at MIXX March 20 as part of our Winter Music Series.

And that’s just to start 2015 after a very busy 2014. But then, Laidback Luke has been doing this for 20 years, so it’s kind of what you’d expect from the former graffiti artist turned DJ.

Since 1995, Luke has a reputation for evolving with the changing face of dance music whether through technical innovation or just plain artistry. And despite his many, many releases (including three albums, the last being “Cream Ibiza Super You & Me” in  2011), Laidback Luke is above all about the live show, as he explains in a recent interview with joonbug.com.

“When I dove into this music, it was all about the cutting edge, new technology. It’s always been about that. It doesn’t matter if you play with vinyl, it doesn’t matter if you play with CDJs, it matters if you play a good set and people enjoy it. I for one am more of the traditional DJ, so I actually like it when I can see people. I was trained as a traditional DJ, but I’m very much open to new techniques.”
