There was a time when the only place to hear dance music was in a dance club. Sounds simple enough.
But then came groups like Swedish House Mafia, who took dance music the festival route and proved a dance music show could fill American arenas—make that big American arenas.
And Borgata Nightlife is proud to be part of his current North American club tour.
He’s a Greek-born, Swedish raised DJ that also produces and owns his own record label. From there, it’s hard to keep track of absolutely everything he has produced—sometimes using different names—and put out.
It’s easier to keep track of Swedish House Mafia, which was composed of him, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell. Together they have produced hits such as “Save the World”, “Antidote”, “Greyhound”, “One”,”Miami 2 Ibiza” and “Don’t You Worry Child”.
Of course, the group has split, but Angello downplays any rumors of a rift between the mates.
“We had an amazing run and played the biggest arenas in the world,” Angello recently told Fuse TV. “Our solo careers were still 90% of our year so it wasn’t as big change for us as it was for people who only knew Swedish House Mafia. Obviously I feel it a little bit; they’re still after shakes from SHM. We’re still doing stuff.”
But at MIXX, Angello trades the festival experience for a more intimate club gig, something he says he needs.
“I really miss the club scene. I miss the culture. Everything has become so festival-driven now,” he recently told Mixmag. “You’re seeing all this new talent coming through but no one has to go through the club scene.
“It irritates me,” he says. “I grew up a DJ and a club head, and I used to come over to the U.K. with Eric Prydz like 15 years ago. And I used to play all these little rooms in Brighton, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and it was such a great club scene for me to come up in because you learn so much, but I feel like that’s all been forgotten. Nobody is paying their dues in the clubs.”
At MIXX, there won’t be any dues to pay. Just an international dance music superstar doing what he loves best.
And that’s what Borgata Nightlife loves best.
