House DJs are electro, tribal, progressive, tech.
Really. The guy’s funny with posts about Doughnut Awareness week, the enormous pickle he likes to tour with and his top five sexiest Electric Daisy Carnival moments (1. Showing Off His Pickle In Front Of A Helicopter – Warning: HIGHLY DANGEROUS), among a million other topics.
“People always ask me about my social media antics and where I get my ideas. But that’s just how my crazy brain works,” Francis said in a recent essay he wrote for medium.com.
Even his new EP that’s about to drop is humorously named “This Mixtape is Fire,” after all of the fire mixtape memes around the web (he advises you not to handle it without protective equipment).
New mixtape you ask?
Yes, once again, Borgata Nightlife’s timing is perfect.
Francis has just unveiled the details for his much-discussed EP, a project that’s been a year in the making. It’s a seven-track that features some of the biggest names in electronic music including Skrillex, Calvin Harris and Chromeo.
The EP features six new songs and a remix of his dance hit “I Can’t Take It” from Party Favor. The record is set to drop August 14, but Francis has released the first track from the project “Bruk Bruk (I Need Your Lovin),” which sees him return to his moombahton routes.
And no, we did not make that word up. Moombathon is a fusion genre of house music and reggaeton. And we didn’t make up the word reggaeton either.
But when Francis plays a show, you never know what he’ll play.
“The one thing I’ve become more and more certain of as my career has progressed is having a very wide repertoire,” he says. “Just sticking to one sound won’t help me grow. That’s why I sometimes forget to play my own songs when I DJ. I know what mixes well, and sometimes it’s just not my own music.
“I just want to put great music out there, and thankfully I’m having an amazing time doing it,” he says.
And so will everyone at MIXX August 2. And everyone reading his tweets during and after as well.
