Over $150K Paid Out on Opening Day of GSSS IV

February 29, 2016 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

GSSS 2016Garden State Super Series IV is now underway and it’s proving to pay off massively for poker players in New Jersey.  All five tournaments on Sunday’s opening day schedule featured more prize pools exceeding all guarantees.

Here’s a look at what happened in last night’s five big tournaments:

  • GSSS #1 featured a final prize pool of $14,100, eclipsing the $7,500 that had been guaranteed.  The NLH Slow Grind saw PunisherPete claim the first place prize of $2,820.
  • GSSS #2, our biggest tournament of the night with $75,000 guaranteed, paid out an impressive $94,400.  A four-way final table deal distributed $43,829 among ninjaG0 ($11K), ABH70 ($11K), floppynuts ($11K) and jakep474 ($10,829).
If the name ninjaG0 sounds familiar, it’s because he’s found significant success in a number of BorgataPoker.com tournaments, including several Sunday $50k Guaranteed tournaments and Daily $10K Guaranteed events.  His total earnings prior to last night’s big win approached $18,000.
  • GSSS #3 saw a final prize pool of $32,500, well above the $20,000 that was promised. A final table deal saw Big_Daddy and treetrap split $10,643 almost down the middle.
  • GSSS #4, a $7,500 guarantee, got fairly close to doubling its guaranteed prize pool, paying out $13,750.  Deezer took first place, adding $2,675 to his bankroll.
  • GSSS #5 paid out $16,000—that’s $6,000 above the $10,000 that was guaranteed.  Congrats to jmzit2u on his first place finish.

The Garden State Super Series IV runs through March 13th with several tournaments on the schedule each day.  Head to the GSSS IV tournament page for all the info and discover which events you’ll conquer next.  Remember, there is over $1 million in guaranteed prize pools for GSSS IV events!

Savor Borgata Presents Spring Sugar & Easter Sweets March 19

February 29, 2016 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

For most of us, sugar is just something we keep in a bowl on the kitchen table. The extent of our creativity with it usually involves simply putting it on corn flakes or in our coffee.

For cooks and bakers, however, sugar is an ingredient and behind every decadent dessert and sweet treat there is. But it’s still pretty basic. Make dessert, add sugar.

Thaddeus DuBois Spring Sugar Easter SweetsThen there are master chefs, like Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s Executive Pastry Chef Thaddeus DuBois. For him, sugar isn’t something you keep in a bowl or sprinkle on cereal. Well, maybe it is if he’s having a quick breakfast, but for DuBois, sugar is also a medium, a material that can make exquisite art and a substance of profound beauty.

What we’re talking about are sugar works or sugar sculpture. It’s the art of spinning sugar into exquisitely intricate and delicate creations. The techniques have been featured on about a gazillion cable TV food shows, yet for most of us they are still as mysterious as Kanye West’s Twitter feed.

On Saturday March 19, however, Dubois and the Savor Borgata Series present “Spring Sugar & Easter Sweets“ at 1pm in Studio 1 at the Event Center.

Enjoy a mesmerizing two-hour demonstration of the art of sugar work with Executive Pastry Chef Thaddeus DuBois while he creates, right before your eyes, a spectacular masterpiece made of 100% sugar. Techniques showcased will be poured, pulled and blown.

Meanwhile sip on chilled champagne and enjoy scrumptious Easter themed desserts presented and served by Pastry Chef David Krzewinski.

We’ve timed this Savor Borgata Event for Easter, which as we all know is the time of the most awesome of sugar creations—the Easter basket.

So let DuBois and Krzewinski show you that sugar is much more than just the stuff they make peeps out of, more than just sweet and more than just a candy egg. In the right hands, it can be a masterpiece.

And it still goes good in coffee.

Tickets for “Spring Sugar & Easter Sweets“ at 1 pm in the Event Center on March 19 are $39 and available here.

Savor Borgata Presents A Night on the Red Carpet at Wolfgang Puck American Grille February 28

February 24, 2016 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

On February 28, all eyes will turn to the Academy Awards presentations in Los Angeles as the whole country goes on a “beautiful people” watching spree.

And as everyone knows, the most fun comes before the awards are even handed out. We’re talking, of course about the red carpet, where we can all say things like, “Gee, not sure Jennifer Lawrence should have gone with the taffeta,” and “Leo’s tux just looks soooo much nicer than Bryan Cranston’s (yeah, it’s the tux).”

Ah yes, the beautiful people. Now most people around the country will be watching this glamour extravaganza in plaid pajama bottoms while eating a pint of ice cream. But here at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, we think the red carpet should be even more of a big deal.  And most of all, we think you should be on a red carpet as well.

That’s why the Savor Borgata Culinary Series will present A Night on the Red Carpet at Wolfgang Puck American Grille starting at 6:30pm February 28, otherwise known as Oscar night.

Think about it. You get to watch the red carpet while taking in all the elegance of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa at one of our premier dining establishments, Wolfgang Puck American Grille.

By the way, guess who’s providing the food for the post Oscars Governors Ball? Just a chef named Wolfgang Puck. Which means you’ll be able to sample the same food the big shots will get after the awards—before the awards.

Join Wolfgang Puck American Grille’s Executive Chef, Aram Mardigian and his team as we toast the movie industry’s biggest night. Come walk the red carpet, sip Moët & Chandon Champagne and delight in handcrafted cocktails. Cheer on your favorite celebrities while savoring the same signature small bites that they will enjoy as you watch the best dressed on the red carpet or simply just dance the night away.

And best of all, you get to party like a star without even having to worry about smiling on camera after you lose.

Check out this menu:

SELECTIONS INCLUDE

Petite Baked Potatoes, Créme Fraiche & Black Caviar

Sesame Encrusted Big Eye Tuna Tataki, Toasted Sesame Ponzu

Four Cheese Agnolotti Pasta, Shaved Black Truffles

American Wagyu Steak Tartare, Dijon Aioli, served on Crostini

Wolfgang’s Smoked Salmon Pizza, Dill Cream & Black Caviar

Mini Wagyu Beef Sliders, Aged White Cheddar & Onion Marmalade

Grilled Spicy Lamb “Lule” Kabobs, Spicy Harissa & Tzatziki Sauce

REVIEW: America’s Drag Stars Present an Entertaining and Naughty Night

February 22, 2016 by Bryan Buttler Leave a Comment

Americas Drag Stars at BorgataIf you liked variety, you clearly weren’t disappointed at this past Saturday’s raucous evening of drag at Borgata’s Music Box featuring the talents of Sherry Vine, Katya, Pandora Boxx, and Ginger Minj. The queens presented what can best be described as a naughty variety show for Atlantic City audiences, featuring everything from a partying Elsa from Frozen to a stripping Adele.

The “ladies” all shared equal time on the Borgata stage, dancing and shaking their high-flying hair and glittery costumes throughout three distinct segments, including a celebrity impersonation act. The audience ate it up and consisted of quite a mixed group of folks: At one point, one of the performers asked who was straight, and nearly half of the crowd raised their hands. There were also plenty of hunky males throughout the evening as four good-looking dancers joined the girls on stage in various states of dress, including a final number where they rocked out to some itty-bitty red shorts (no one complained, FYI).

The performers, many of whom are Drag Race alumni, showed why they were billed as America’s drag stars. There were a host of memorable acts throughout the night: Katya rocked out to “All That Jazz” from the musical Chicago with Fosse-inspired choreography. Ginger presented a hysterical Adele number, were she transformed from skirt-wearing songstress to disco diva, thanks to a dance remix of “Hello.” Pandora was the naughty Elsa, referenced earlier, and sprinkled white powder all over the stage and the audience sitting in the front row, while Sherry Vine sang her signature covers of popular tunes.

It was a campy, fun evening for OUT at Borgata, and if the line to meet-and-greet the drag stars outside of The Music Box was any indication, the audience loved it. It was also great to see the wide spectrum of people who came out to the show: there were, obviously, gay men, but also plenty of lesbian women, and a few folks “dressed” for the occasion, wearing full drag. As Katya suggested during the show, it was amazing how the evening was a huge melting pot of people coming together to enjoy the performance. That alone is a pretty huge achievement.
