When filling up an Easter basket, most of us tend to go with the store-bought standards – from peeps to chocolate eggs. As for our own creativity, we tend to reserve that for the hard boiled Easter Eggs and those little dye tablets.
But it doesn’t have to be that way as – with some help from Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Executive Pastry Chef David Krzewinski – you can make your own homemade Easter bonbons to put a personal touch into your Easter baskets.
It’s simple, delicious and another gem from Savor Borgata. And we promise these bonbons will make your Easter baskets the baskets everyone is talking about it. When their mouths aren’t full, that is.
How to Make Chocolate Nutella Easter Egg Bonbons
By Executive Pastry Chef, David Krzewinski
– 1 ½ cups Coating Chocolate *You will need additional for dipping when ready to decorate. Coating chocolate comes in a variety of flavors and colors and does not require tempering like chocolate.
– 1/2 cup Nutella
– Pastry bag
– Easter Egg Candy Molds
– 6″ Lollipop Sticks
– Squeeze bottles
– Pearl Dust
In a microwave safe bowl add:
- 1 1/2 Cup Coating Chocolate
- 1/2 Cup Nutella
Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, scrape & repeat. Microwave another 30 seconds. Be careful not to burn. Stir until smooth and chocolate is melted.
Pour into pastry bag.
Next, pipe filling into each cavity. Give the mold several taps to remove any air bubbles. Place the mold in the freezer for about 5 minutes just until the filling starts to firm up. Remove from freezer, insert lollipop sticks and place back in freezer for 30 minutes until eggs are completely set.
Melt the various coating chocolate colors of your choice using the same method used earlier (30 second increments).
2 bowls: 1 each for your base color/flavor.
Take the eggs from the freezer, add some fun colors to the base chocolate in a zigzag formation or get crazy and free form. Either way it will be a work of art!
Dip each egg into the chocolate. And then place onto parchment paper to harden. To finish, lightly brush on some pearl dust. After all, who doesn’t love an egg with a little bit of shimmer.
No time? No problem! Buy a box of them at Borgata Baking Company between March 25 – 27.
