Top Reasons for Making a ‘Fall Escape’ to Borgata

August 31, 2016 by Brian Burke Leave a Comment

fall-escapeLabor Day is upon us and that means we’re all gearing up for the fall season after another long, luxurious summer in Atlantic City at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. That’s assuming, of course, you managed to get away this summer and enjoy a little down time.

Autumn is the season when we all seem to reboot. It’s back to school, back to work, back to the daily grind. Sure, there’s some good stuff like football season, new TV shows, fall foliage … but it also means shorter days, leaves to rake, driving the kids to soccer practice and an ever-shrinking amount of time for holiday shopping.

You know, just thinking about it makes us want to plan another getaway … a fall escape … a fall escape to Borgata. We are, after all, the getaway specialists and we’ll let you in on a little secret – autumn is a beautiful time of year in Atlantic City and along the Jersey Shore.

So with that in mind, here are some of the top reasons to plan a fall escape at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

  • YOU CAN BE PAMPERED AT OUR SPA(S)

You spend enough time in the kitchen and deserve to leave the cooking up to our fine Borgata Chefs like Bobby Flay and Wolfgang Puck. Let Old Homestead Steakhouse serve you up a Gotham Rib Steak or try a sushi specialty at Izakaya as you peruse Borgata’s Fine Dining restaurants. And if you prefer casual dining, we offer everything from The Metropolitan’s fine American cuisine to the Borgata Buffet.

  • THE HILARITY NEVER STOPS

PHOTOS: Chihuly at Borgata is an Art Lover’s Dream

August 31, 2016 by Bryan Buttler Leave a Comment

No doubt that if you’ve been to Borgata, you’ve noted the extravagant glass sculptures that seem to drip effortlessly from the ceiling and rise majestically from the resort’s floor. Those colorful works of art are none other than world-famous Chihuly glass, created by master craftsman Dale Chihuly, and some of our guests come to our resort just to take in the signature pieces by the American artist.

Chihuly, who was born in Washington in 1941, has had countless exhibitions of his work across the globe, from Venice to London to the Netherlands, and blew his own glass until he had a tragic car accident in 1976. Afterwards, due to challenges with his eyesight, Chihuly began serving as a director of a team of artists, who have created hundreds of massive glass installations found in buildings across the globe. Most notably in the United States, Chihuly works can be found at a number of MGM casinos in Las Vegas, including the Bellagio, and at the gorgeous Chihuly Gardens in Seattle.

And, of course, Borgata houses a number of stunning Chihuly pieces across the property, from the main entrance of the casino to the corridor connecting Borgata to The Water Club. Take a look at the gallery of Borgata’s Chihuly, and the next time you visit, play a game of trying to find all of the signature artwork throughout the resort. As the artist himself one said, “Glass has the ability, more than any other material, to bring joy and a certain happiness to people.”

Comedy Review: Jim Gaffigan at Borgata Event Center

August 29, 2016 by Carie York Leave a Comment

Gaffigan07Comedian Jim Gaffigan may seem like he’s everywhere these days. He stars in a series of pretty funny commercials for Chrysler, was one of the revolving Colonel Sanders in KFC’s ongoing ad campaign and just completed a run of the second season of “The Jim Gaffigan Show” on TV Land.

But despite all this TV, when Gaffigan rolled his Fully Dressed Tour into the Borgata Event Center Saturday for two shows, it was pretty evident what got Gaffigan to where he is – namely killer stand-up. Playing before two packed houses, Gaffigan unleashed a solid hour of wide ranging stand-up which covered everything from the changing seasons, the differences between ordering steak and fish (guess which one Gaffigan prefers) to travelling with his kids.

In fact, keeping up with Gaffigan’s observations and often sly humor could be a little dizzying for an audience that was constantly trying to catch its breath from laughing. But then that’s what a good comedy show is supposed to do and it’s rare that a stand-up can do a full hour of material and never see a lull in the laughter. Gaffigan can.

Opening for Gaffigan was veteran comic Ted Alexandro, a New York based standup like Gaffigan. Alexandro was a strong warm-up with some pretty funny bits – one of recreating the pose you make for school pictures had the crowd roaring – and gave Gaffigan an audience primed to laugh.

Gaffigan knew just what to do, almost immediately seizing on one of his most endearing traits – his ability to make fun of himself. For example, a comedian that starts off his set doing fat jokes could risk losing part of the audience – the heavier part – but since all Gaffigan’s jokes were about how fat he is, well, then that’s OK.

From there, it was an endless stream of consciousness that seemed to cover every subject that has crossed his mind the last few years.

“What do you think leaves are thinking when they see us driving by looking at the foliage. ‘AHHH, why is everyone looking at me, I’m dying.’”

“In the winter we talk about summer like it’s a lost pet. ‘Hey, we have pictures. Here we are in summer. That’s when we were happy.’”

“What do people think of when they order fish in a restaurant? “Would you like the steak sir? No, I’d rather have something horrible.”

As was displayed on his recently ended TV show and his Chrysler commercials, Gaffigan is also becoming pretty famous for being the father of five children – his 2013 memoir is titled Dad is Fat – and he incorporates a lot of his family life into the act. Like for example, a recent trip to a Pirate based amusement park.

“Kids just love to dress up and be pirates. And the parents are right there with them. They’re running around “Yeah, let’s pretend we’re the murdering sociopaths that terrorized the Caribbean.”

Most importantly, Gaffigan knows what brung him, and often revisited some of the familiar bits that made him famous in his various TV specials, including the running commentary on his own show by an imaginary audience member.

In fact, in what may be unprecedented for a comedian, Gaffigan actually did an encore where he came back out on stage and revisited his famed Hot Pockets routine. It’s what he’s most known for and it’s a shrewd move. No matter how many times you may have heard the jokes, it’s impossible not to laugh again listening to him do his “Ho-ot Pockets” jingle (and in truth, there may have been some new jokes in there. Who can tell? The audience was just rolling with laughter).

During the show, Gaffigan gave out two important shout outs, first saying he loved Atlantic City and also thanking everyone who had watched “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” which will not be returning for a third season after a mutual agreement between Gaffigan, his wife and collaborator Jeannie and TV Land to allow the couple more time with their family.

“If you didn’t watch it, you’re just a horrible person,” he teased. Judging from the applause, most people in the audience had watched it.

Chances are, Gaffigan’s going to be around for a long while, bringing his stand-up comedy to Atlantic City and the Borgata Event Center. Can’t wait to see what crosses his mind next.

Here’s a look at Borgata’s full comedy line-up.

Borgata King: What’s Next for WSOP Bracelet Winner Michael Gagliano

August 26, 2016 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

Michael_GaglianoTake a look at Michael Gagliano’s top five poker tournament cashes and you’ll quickly realize that there’s something special about Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

The New Jersey online poker pro’s second biggest career cash came back in 2013 at the Borgata Spring Poker Open in Atlantic City, where Gagliano pocketed $169,029 for a 2nd place finish. And most recently, this past April, Gagliano finished 3rd in a $2,500+200 NLH Championship event for $128,768.

It gets more impressive. Between 2009 and 2016, Gagliano has found success in 13 major Borgata Poker Open events in Atlantic City. He’s finished 2nd in two Borgata Poker Open tournaments — one in 2013 and one in 2014. And he’s notched a 3rd and 4th place finish at the famous Atlantic City casino. Gagliano is as much a fixture of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa as the boardwalk is a fixture of Atlantic City.

When Michael Gagliano steps onto the tournament floor of the Borgata poker room this September, he’ll be eyeing that elusive Borgata Poker Open tournament title. And judging by his performance in Las Vegas this summer, it’s within reach.

Practice at Borgata, Success in Vegas

The 31-year-old poker player from New Jersey captured his first World Series of Poker bracelet this summer in Event #25, a $2,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament that featured a $2,377,375 prize pool. The poker pro earned $448,463 for his 1st place finish, not to mention the confidence to conquer another big tournament at the casino he frequents.

“Borgata is easily the best casino in Atlantic City,” commented Gagliano between hands at the Borgata Summer Poker Open. “Not only is this place really high class and comfortable, but it has the biggest and best run poker tournaments anywhere in the northeast, so it’s a super obvious choice for me.”

What’s not so obvious is which event Gagliano will land his next big victory in. The next Borgata Poker Open, which gets underway on September 6th and runs until September 23rd, features several million-dollar prize pools. Online players in New Jersey can get into the following featured events for as little as a $5 online buy-in through the online satellite program.  Chief among the featured events are the $2 Million Guaranteed Kick-Off event ($560 land-based buy-in), a $1 Million Guaranteed Almighty Stack tournament ($450 land-based buy-in), the highly-anticipated televised $3 Million Guaranteed WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship ($3,500 land-based buy-in), and the inaugural PokerNews Cup at Borgata ($2,150 land-based buy-in).

In addition, players can win their $3,500 entry to the live tournament by playing online at BorgataPoker.com every Sunday through the end of August. BorgataPoker.com is awarding the winner of the Sunday $40,000 guaranteed poker tournament with a seat in the WPT Championship tournament.

Qualify Online for the Borgata Poker Open

Winning the Sunday Major isn’t the only way to join Mike Gagliano at the Borgata Poker Open. Starting August 21st, online poker players can satellite into the Borgata Poker Open Kick-Off tournament or the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship, starting at just $5.

“I think the best thing about BorgataPoker.com for me is the satellites to the live events,” says Gagliano, who goes by the name Gags30 on BorgataPoker.com. “I love that I can sit at home and try to win a seat to a land based event. With every trip I plan to Atlantic City, I try to win some satellites before I go. It’s a great way to keep my buy-ins low and be able to take some shots in larger events for a nice price.”
Getting into a live event for pennies on the dollar is a big deal. While Gagliano describes Borgata as the best casino in Atlantic City, he admits that it doesn’t necessarily offer the softest field.

“You definitely get a lot of regulars at Borgata,” he notes. “Come often enough and you’ll see lots of familiar faces from New York, Philly, and all over New Jersey. I think because everyone plays with each other a fair amount, seemingly more than in other parts of the country, I feel like people may play some hands differently or try to be tricky a bit more. Because of that, you’ve gotta be on the lookout for guys who might try to run a big bluff on you.”

Gags Loves The Grind

Winning your way in through satellites helps, but that’s not the only way poker players are building their live tournament bankroll at BorgataPoker.com. The regulated New Jersey poker site offers players up to $4,500 in cash and tournament tickets every month to online poker players. With The Grind, players are paid tournament tickets or cash each time they reach an iRewards Points milestone.

iRewards Points are awarded based on real money online poker play. The more someone plays, the more iRewards Points they’ll earn. And as players earn more points, they receive cash and prizes. The Grind doesn’t pit players against each other. Theoretically, every player is capable of winning $4,500 in cash and prizes.

“I’ve definitely benefited from The Grind,” says Gagliano. “I’ve never reached the highest level, but I’ve reached some pretty high ones and gotten some nice returns. It’s almost like a form of rakeback. Play a lot, put in some volume, and get a nice chunk of money back. And no other site offers it.”

Rakeback is something Gagliano is very familiar with. Prior to joining BorgataPoker.com, Gagliano played at a number of offshore poker sites before their eventual closures. While the larger fields and rakeback opportunities were plentiful, there’s a renewed sense of peace of mind that BorgataPoker.com has brought to the table.

“I like the security that comes with online poker regulation, specifically with the deposit and withdrawal methods. It’s great to be able to safely deposit and withdraw using my bank account and not have to worry about shady transactions or my information being stolen or any of the stuff I used to worry about before regulation.”

Players in New Jersey who are interested in winning their way to the upcoming Borgata Poker Open can sign up for a free account at BorgataPoker.com. New players qualify for a welcome bonus worth $20, plus a 100% match bonus up to $600.

Borgata Chef Wolfgang Puck to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

August 22, 2016 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

WPAG DemoAs the old Kinks song says, “You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard.”

We’re talking about the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, of course, where the names of stars of radio, film, TV and every other kind of entertainment medium you can think of are emblazoned on Hollywood Boulevard’s sidewalk.

One form of entertainment, however, – that of the Celebrity Chef – is pretty new to the Walk of Fame, so it gives us great delight to announce that Borgata Chef Wolfgang Puck has been named as a recipient of a star on the Walk of Fame for 2017.

We’re sure this has a lot to do with the success of Wolfgang Puck American Grille here at Borgata, but Puck’s TV appearances, acting appearances, other world famous restaurants (such as L.A’s own Spago) and numerous bestselling cookbooks and products may have also played a role.

In the end, that means Puck’s name will be forever enshrined on the boulevard sometime next year (no official date has been announced).

“I’m thrilled to have been selected to be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Puck said in an official statement after the announcement. “To have my legacy immortalized by this iconic landmark, and to know that one day my grandchildren will be able to see my name there on the star, is an honor, not only for me, but also for my family.”

Puck is only the second celebrity chef to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. The other is Bobby Flay who, hey, just happens to be a Borgata Chef as well with Bobby Flay Steak here at Borgata.

That cinches it. The best way for a celebrity chef to make the Walk of Fame – open a restaurant at Borgata. And, you know, get really famous for your cooking.

We’re kidding, of course. Borgata is honored to be part of the great careers of Puck and Flay and congratulate Puck on this achievement.

In honor of Wolfgang Puck, here’s a link to a signature dish from Puck listed on our Wolfgang Puck page. Or come in and experience Wolfgang Puck American Grille for yourself.

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate a great Borgata chef.

BorgataCasino.com Winners for August 8 to August 14

August 21, 2016 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

Siberian StormFor fans of checking out our big online winners each week at Borgata’s online sites, we’ve only got info on the big jackpots at BorgataCasino.com this week. BorgataPoker.com winners will be back next week.

But that’s still better than $15K in jackpots for our three big winners. And, as usual, one of the big three was hit on our Loot’EnKhamun slots, giving Nicholas from Sewell NJ something in common with the usual Loot’EnKhamun jackpot winners we see week to week.

See what we did there? Lot’EnKhamun kind of rhymes with “in common” … Sooo, anyway, here’s a look at a shortened online winners list with the big jackpots at BorgataCasino.com for the week of August 8 to August 14.

– On August 10, Leah from Colts Neck New Jersey, made a $25.00 bet on the Gonzo’s Quest mobile slot game and won $4,068.75.

World of Wonka Slots Make World Debut at Borgata

August 19, 2016 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

World of Wonka1Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is announcing the world premiere of a new slot based on the classic 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory from WMS games titled Willy Wonka – World of Wonka.

Which is doubly cool, since Willy Wonka’s world is pretty exclusive in its own right, what with chocolate rivers, Oompa Loompas and everlasting gobstoppers. Yes, if ever there was a world of pure imagination, it’s Willy Wonka’s world, captured perfectly in the film starring Gene Wilder.

Oh sure, there was that Johnny Depp film in 2005 Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, also based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book of the same name. But with all due respect to Depp, when Wilder took on the role, they gave him top billing.

Wonka’s world in the film was bright, colorful, kind of crazy and absurd and in the end, very rewarding. That has slot theme written all over it.

According to WMS Games, Willy Wonka’s sweet world comes to life with sugary bonuses galore in the new Wonka’s World slots. The lovable Oompa Loompa Feature, the Wonka Winko Bonus, Free Spins, the World of Wonka Wheel Bonus, the Chocolate River Bonus, and of course the Golden Ticket Bonus delight players with every type of sweet tooth.

Cinema’s greatest confectionery adventure comes alive on the casino floor. Showcased on the amazing GAMESCAPE™ cabinet, players are taken on an amazing journey immersed in the World of Wonka! Players will be in a world of pure imagination, as Willy sings in the blockbuster movie, “… we’ll begin, with a spin…

Is it any wonder they chose to debut the slot at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa to join our all-star selection of slot themes? Like all of our great slots, Wonka’s World uses bonus and special features to immerse you in the film.

World of Wonka2Here’s a look at some special features:

OOMPA LOOMPA FEATURE – On any wagered spin this feature may be randomly triggered or it may be won in the Wonka Winko Bonus. When triggered, the screen may expand to 8, 10, or 12 columns wide to add additional pay lines.Players may opt for either the Regular Oompa Loompa or the More Better Oompa Loompa scenario! Occurs on average every 7 Wonka Winko Bonuses and pays on average 20 credits times total bet when won in the Wonka Winko Bonus.

WONKA WINKO BONUS – During this Bonus, a Gobstopper drops fromthe top of the top screen and drops down a peg board. The bouncing Gobstopper may award additional bonus enhancements such as a Double Wonka Bar, a Saver for the Chocolate River Bonus, more Free Spins, or the World of Wonka Wheel Bonus. The Gobstopper then awards either the Golden Ticket Bonus, the Chocolate River Bonus, the Oompa Loompa Bonus, or the Free Spins Bonus!

CHOCOLATE RIVER BONUS – Players are awarded 150 credits at the start of the Bonus! On the first pick, Low Risk is available; players pick a Blue Chocolate for a credit reward ranging from 25 to 60 credits. For the second pick, Low Risk and Medium Risk are available; players pick a Blue Chocolate from Low Risk for 25 to 60 credits, or Fall In. Players then choose a Green Chocolate from Medium Risk for 50 to 125 credits, or Fall In. For the third pick, Low Risk, Medium Risk, High Risk, Very High Risk, and Yikes are available. Players pick a Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, or Red Chocolate, respectively, and are awarded credit prizes. Each selection level has the Fall In scenario! Magic Mike XXL Slots Debut at Borgata

August 17, 2016 by Becky Grimm Leave a Comment

magic_mike_slots_1080x1080Every actor dreams of a getting that big breakout role that propels them to stardom. But for fans of Channing Tatum – especially fans of his abs – his breakout role was their dream come true.

We’re talking about Magic Mike, the 2012 film directed by Steven Soderbergh that heated up the screen and that summer in a way few films had before. Sure there’s been films about strip … uhm, exotic dancers before, but few have been so, well, exotic.

The result was so popular. Magic Mike was back with a sequel in 2015 with Magic Mike XXL.

And like most people who saw the films, you probably thought to yourself, “This would make a pretty good slot machine theme.”

OK, that’s probably not what you thought, but fortunately that’s exactly what the folks at Aristocrat Games thought when creating the slot Magic Mike XXL, which can now be found on the casino floor of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

The ultimate girl’s night out favorites Mike, Ken, Tito, and Richie are back together again, and the result is a game that will have players squealing, “I love this hard body!”

The Aristocrat Games writers came up with that last line, but you get the idea. The slots game is featured in a VERVE high definition cabinet, which means great graphics that are, you know, pretty graphic. It’s a game about strip … uhm exotic dancers, after all.

Aristocrat promises that Magic Mike XXL perfectly blends a powerful entertainment brand with gambler math for wide audience appeal. Its simple math thrills with spectacular wins, leaving players pumping their fists for more.

The base game rocks with Dynamic Stacked 4-high symbols, where the men of Magic Mike XXL randomly get “wild,” adding to the volatility mix. Hyperlink progressive jackpots are randomly awarded on any bought game, meaning players can win one of two exciting progressive jackpots, which are available at any bet level.

Bonus features include “Are You Ready to Get Wild”, where all dancer symbols become wild; “It’s Not Bro Time, It’s Showtime” free spins with wild stacked reels; and “Magic Mike Bonus” where players pick tiles for huge payouts.

The 2012 film had a lot of Channing Tatum fans feeling like they had hit the jackpot. Now, they literally can by playing Magic Mike at Borgata Slots.
