At Borgata, we work hard to bring the best live entertainment to Atlantic City and to you. And we think we do a pretty good job as our packed line-up of concerts and nightlife options show.
But when it comes to comedy, few stretches on our schedule can compare to the three weeks between August 12 and September 3. It’s enough to make us toot our own horn a little, so to speak.
Four of the biggest names in comedy will perform at the Borgata Event Center, starting with perhaps the most famous stand-up in the country, Jerry Seinfeld for shows on August 12 and August 13 respectively.
Seinfeld needs little introduction, as his self-titled sitcom is still considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time and reruns air nightly all over the country. Lately you can see Seinfeld in his award winning web show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
More importantly, Seinfeld still performs live around the country and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is his Atlantic City home. We proudly get to host his stand-up several times a year. Borgata is currently the only New Jersey stop on his current tour.
Now, of course, that’s quite a coup to be Seinfeld central in Atlantic City, but just two weeks later, the Event Center will host another great stand-up comedian in Jim Gaffigan for two shows August 27. Gaffigan, of course, is hot right now as his innovative sitcom “The Jim Gaffigan Show” on TV Land, which has taken the “Hot Pockets’ guy to a new level.
On his current Fully Dressed” tour, he’s even being credited with sending a woman into labor because she laughed so hysterically at a recent Gaffigan appearance in Buffalo, New York. Now that’s the power of comedy.
So that would be a pretty good doubleheader to have Seinfeld and Gaffigan appear at the Event Center, but just a week later – for Labor Day Weekend – the Event Center will host comedian Gabriel Iglesias for one show on September 2 and ventriloquist/comedian Jeff Dunham for two shows September 3.
Iglesias is huge – make that fluffy – and tours constantly, but again Borgata is the only New Jersey stop on his current tour. Iglesias is a constant on Comedy Central, which often marathons his various comedy specials.
Also no stranger to the marathon treatment on Comedy Central is Dunham, whose characters Achmed and Walter, and Peanut … it goes on and on … have captured the hearts and minds of America. Again, Borgata scored his only New Jersey appearance on his current tour.
With a line-up of Seinfeld, Gaffigan, Iglesias and Dunham. Borgata has secured a rare comedy quad-fecta with arguably the four biggest stand-ups in the country. And as you’d expect, tickets went fast and six of the seven scheduled shows sold out almost immediately.
So in the spirit of not leaving anyone out, here’s a quote from each:
Seinfeld – “What’s the different between food and sex? Well, I would say, food has a higher winning percentage. Food is on your side. You’re there, food’s there, it’s on. I never ran into a bag of potato chips that didn’t feel like opening. Nobody ever said, “The chocolate is not in the mood, we have to eat salad.” I never had a cupcake say, “put me down, you’re disgusting.”
*From a 2015 performance at Borgata
Gaffigan – “It is amazing how email has changed our lives. You ever get a handwritten letter in the mail today? “What the?… Has someone been kidnapped?”
Iglesias – “When you have nothing but big friends, you never get into arguments — except one. And that is, who is the biggest? I’ll let you know right now, there’s only one way to settle this. We all get in a bus and we go to Disney and we get on a roller coaster — whoever gets the least amount of clicks on the safety bar is the big one.”
Dunham –
Jeff Dunham: “Sometimes my wife calls me the ‘the Hurricane.’”
Walter: “The what?”
Jeff Dunham: “The Hurricane.”
Walter: “Oh yeah, I get it. Exciting at first, then it ends in disaster. You know, maybe she should call you FEMA. Slow to respond and not a lot of satisfying results.”
