There are few things in the American culinary palate as time honored and cherished as ground beef sandwiches served in endless varieties.
In other words, Americans really love hamburgers!
We make them in our kitchens and at cookouts and we go out to eat them or just grab a sack on the way home from work. And we eat hamburgers a lot. It’s estimated that the average American eats three hamburgers a week and as a country, we consume 50 billion hamburgers a year. That’s billion, with a “B.”
So considering all that, we figure you’ve probably had a burger or two in your time and know a little bit about them. And chances are you’ve run the gamut of hamburger choices experiencing the square ones, the round ones, the double-decker ones, the ones with American cheese, the ones with cheddar cheese, the ones with Swiss cheese, the ones with special sauce, with ketchup, with mayo, with ketchup and mayo … look, when a country eats 50 billion of something a year, there are going to be some choices.
Now we here at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa love burgers as much as any other world class casino with an extensive array of fine and casual dining choices. And we also take giving you what you want very seriously. And that’s why we think we’ve got the most delicious array of burgers you’re going to find in Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore, the East Coast and possibly the world.
Bold claims? Maybe, but you’ll see what we mean as we present the five best burger choices at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. In a country where the burger is king, we’ll put our burgers up against anyone’s.
20 OZ. PRIME STEAKHOUSE BURGER
onion rings | chipotle ketchup | stone ground mustard
At Old Homestead, they like to say that beef is more than just a pastime, it’s a way of life. So their 20-ounce burger is one of the grandest little slices of life a burger aficionado can find. This burger is actually one of the most famous in the country at Old Homestead’s locations, including in Manhattan where the brothers and owners Greg and Marc Sherry carry on a better than 150-year tradition. Once you taste their trademarked domestically raised, hand-massaged beef, you’ll know why.
Wolfgang Puck American Grille:
GRILLED PRIME BURGER
onion marmalade | Vermont cheddar | garlic mayo | pickles | fries
World-renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck and Executive Chef Aram Mardigian bring Puck’s innovative menu to the American Grille, which of course features a take on the most classic of American dishes, the grilled prime burger. With one of the most extensive wine and spirits menu at Borgata (including extensive beer offerings) and decadent dessert menu, you can truly make the grilled prime burger upscale dining. The key to this luxurious burger is the onion marmalade, which Puck himself describes as having more of kick than regular onions, yet you can “kiss someone later without having onion breath.”
TURKEY BURGER
8 oz of all white ground turkey | caramelized onions | sliced avocado | American cheese | bacon
While The Metropolitan is designed as a European bistro, the menu features some delicious American classics including four distinctly unique burgers. The Turkey Burger topped our list as an excellent alternative to the traditional beef option. The Metropolitan’s turkey cut is leaner than beef and made out of pure ground white meat (which isn’t always true of lesser turkey burgers). Add avocado, bacon and American cheese for a truly tasty delight. If you’re a purist and still committed to beef in your burger, Metro’s other options include the mushroom swiss burger, the bacon cheddar burger and the restaurant’s signature Metro burger, all featuring 10 ounces of fresh ground beef served on a brioche bun with crispy french fries, lettuce, tomato and onion.
LONG BAR BEEF SLIDERS
roasted tomato | Chile relish | avocado mayo
As someone once said, “What’s a drink without a good nosh?” At Borgata’s Long Bar, we offer one of the best bar menus you’ll find anywhere, including our beef sliders. Sliders, as if you didn’t know, are bite-sized hamburgers, aka the perfect bar food. With more than 15 beers to choose from, plus Long Bar’s wines and specialty drinks, we’ve elevated noshing to new heights. Spend an evening pairing up your drink with these tasty little devils garnished with Chile relish and avocado mayo. Trust us, it’s time well spent.
The Sunroom at The Water Club at Borgata
THE WATER CLUB SIRLOIN BURGER
tomato | cheddar | crispy onion | red pepper mayo
Our list wouldn’t be complete without Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s Water Club Sirloin Burger. Zakarian’s menu has made the Sunroom one of the most luxurious places at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa to escape, relax and enjoy some masterful dishes. When it comes to burgers, Geoffrey is known for his simple, yet incredibly tasty cooking techniques, which can be seen on a variety of Food Network series and experienced through all of the culinary options offered at The Water Club. This Iron Chef shows us that there’s more to cooking a burger than you think, and his sirloin burger proves it.
***BONUS – Burgers & Fries at The Marketplace Eatery:
An added bonus on the list, the new Marketplace Eatery features its own unique hamburger stand, Burger & Fries, using 100% Grass Fed Certified Angus Beef from Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors. Their burgers are freshly pressed on the grill and served with your choice of hand-battered Onion Rings or Loaded French Fries, and should probably (definitely) be ordered with one of their signature Milkshakes…we recommend either the Oreo Cookies & Cream or the Rice Krispie Treat.
So what do you think, are these your favorite burgers at Borgata? Did we miss anything? Comment and let us know.
