New Beginnings in 2019 for BorgataPoker.com player Asher Conniff

January 30, 2019 by Asher Conniff aka misclick Leave a Comment

Each year that passes, I take time to reflect and think of change for the better.  Admittedly, I haven’t been good at keeping my “New Year’s Resolutions.” But, I have always told myself if at first you don’t succeed, try again!

BorgataPoker.com winner Asher Confitt discusses New Year's resolutions. In 2019 I really am committed to being physically healthier than ever before, first and foremost.  I’m starting the year with a full cleanse of my body, relying on a diet of fruit and extremely healthy foods and staying away from meat and fats for at least the beginning of the year.  It won’t be easy, as I’m quite the carnivore; however I’ve recently gotten bigger and unhealthier than I care to admit. It is important for me to get my act together physically to perform better when playing poker.  I also plan to focus on physical exercise more than ever before which will increase vitality, stamina and general strength.

I also am doing my best to cut back on “extracurricular activities.” I like to have fun and go out with friends, but I’d like to try to cut out some of my partying, drinking and extra-late nights. I find that partying really makes it hard for me to stay on the straight and narrow when it comes to diet, exercise and whatnot.  After a long night out, there is nothing like eating a greasy bacon egg and cheese sandwich and lying in bed for way too long.  Unfortunately, that does nothing for a balanced diet, or life.

I plan on continuing to study poker fiercely and approaching the game with a renewed vigor and sense of purpose.  After a long time of feeling very wishy-washy about the game, it’s nice to be excited to play the game and to learn more about the game. There are so many resources readily available to improve and learn.

More than anything, however, 2019 is about interpersonal relationships. I’m coming to realize that there’s nothing more beautiful than the people around me. Friends and family are what life is all about and I plan on spending all of my free time growing those relationships.

New year, new me! Here’s to 2019 being much better than 2018 and only going onward and upward from here!

Asher Conniff

Sports Betting 101: How to Play at Borgata

January 29, 2019 by Carie York Leave a Comment

If you’re getting ready for The Big Game, you might have some questions about sports betting at Borgata.  The concept can look very confusing and intimidating if you have never participated before, but it can be broken down into very simple, straight-forward steps.

To start, if you are betting on a two team game (as opposed to a multi-participant event like golf or Nascar), your options are rather simple.  You can choose to bet on one of the teams to win or on the total points scored by both teams.

First bet: Straight team bet

Example: The Los Angeles Rams are playing the Kansas City Chiefs.  You believe the Chiefs are going to win.  You walk into the Sports Book and see the following:

301  Los Angeles Rams    +160

302  Kansas City Chiefs   -3 ½ -180

What do these numbers mean?  The “301” and “302” in front of the teams are simply the betting number assigned to them.  If you decide you want to bet on the Chiefs, you will tell the cashier “302” and they will know you mean the Chiefs.  The “-3 ½” next to the Chiefs is the point spread on the game.  That means the Chiefs are favored to win the game by 3 ½ points.  Therefore, if you believe the Chiefs can beat the Rams by more than 3 ½ points, you will simply tell the cashier the team number and how much you want to bet: “$20 on 302”.  That means you bet $20 that the Chiefs will win by at least 4 points, in order for you to win your wager.

What happens though if you aren’t that confident the Chiefs will win by at least 4 points, but you still think they are going to win the game?  That’s where the next numbers come in, called the money line.  In the example above, the Chiefs odds on the money line are listed as -180.  This means that you have to bet $180 on the Chiefs in order to win $100 (or to make it more simple, bet $1.80 in order to win $1).  So, if you choose to bet the Chiefs on the money line, they can win by any amount and you still win the bet!  If you wish to make this wager, you would tell the cashier “$20 on 302 money line.”

Second bet: Total points scored in the game

We will stick with the same game as the one above. You believe the Chiefs and the Rams will score over 60 points combined.  The good news is you can bet this and make money on it!

When you look at the game listed in the Sports Book, you will see a column labeled “Total” next to the game’s listing.   In this example, the total listed for the game is 58 ½.  This means the Sports Book is saying that they believe both teams will combine to score 58 ½ points in the game.  If you believe both teams can score more than that, you will bet “the over.”  If you believe both teams will score less than 58 ½ points, than you will bet “the under.” If you are confident both teams will score more than 60 points, you will stick with the over wager.  When you approach the cashier, you will say, “$20 on 302 over.” This means that if the Rams and Chief combine for at least 59 points scored in the game, you will win your bet!

There are many other types of bets and options, but the basic bets in a Sports Book are very simple to make and the cashiers can always help you if you are unsure.

Celebrate The Big Game at Borgata with Football Themed Cocktails

January 29, 2019 by Ryan Ross Leave a Comment

The biggest football Sunday of the year is upon us and Borgata is the perfect location to celebrate the championship game, with sports-themed food and drink specials, as well as viewing opportunities throughout the property – including Angeline by Michael Symon, Bobby Flay Steak, Wolfgang Puck American Grille, and Level One.

Check out these football-themed cocktails that will be available throughout the property!

—– Los Angeles —–

The LA-ngria

It’s been 17 years since the organization – then from St. Louis – reached the championship game, yet the road to the big game seemed inevitable after numerous free agent signings and a core of all star players including a first overall pick and the reigning Offensive Player of the Year powered LA to a 13-3 record. The LA–ngria typifies a roster with many excellent ingredients that, when they come together, form an unbeatable cocktail…err team.

• Rioja Wine
• Red Vermouth
• Demerara Syrup
• Cranberry Juice
• Fresh apples, oranges and pomegranate seeds
• Glass: Wine
– Combine ingredients in pitcher and pour into wine glass. Stir and garnish with additional fruit.

*Where to imbibe: Bobby Flay Steak

*Perfect pairing: Crab Cake Slider / Thick Cut Roasted Glazed Bacon / Onion Rings

#99 Martini

Named for arguably the most dominant defensive player in the league, the #99 Martini exhibits many of the traits the indomitable D-Lineman does; strong and powerful with sweet moves and a smooth finish. Show your LA pride with this delicious concoction.

• Vodka
• Blue Curacao
• Lime Juice
• Cocoa bitters
• Garnish: Lemon Rind
• Glass: Martini
– In a shaker filled with ice combine vodka, blue curacao, lime juice and bitters. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon rind.

*Where to imbibe: Angeline by Michael Symon

*Perfect pairing: Meatball Sliders

—– New England —–

Flip The Script

Coming off of last year’s devastating championship loss to the underdogs from Philly, many experts predicted that this was the end of an era in New England, with an aging QB, a TE wavering on retirement and less weapons than in past years. However, undaunted, football’s most dominant franchise proved doubters wrong once again, flipping the script and making their unprecedented 11th title game.

• Few Whiskey
• Tawny Port
• Victory Storm King Stout Beer
• Carpano Antica Vermouth
• 1 Whole Egg
• Chocolate Bitters
• Maple Syrup
• Chocolate Shavings & Grated Nutmeg
• Glass: Pint
– Combine all ingredients (minus stout beer) in shaker. Hard shake for 30 seconds. Add ice. Hard shake for 30. Pour & strain into pint glass and top with stout. Garnish with chocolate shavings and grated nutmeg.

*Where to imbibe: Wolfgang Puck American Grille

*Perfect pairing: Lamb Chorizo Sub / Asian Wings / Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

The Dynasty Martini

From the top down, rarely has sports featured an organization with such triumphant longevity as New England. The Dynasty Martini offers up a classy and recognizable flavor befitting a team showcasing success the likes of which may never be seen again. Show off your East Coast pride and ask for one at Angeline.

• Vodka
• Luxardo Cherry Juice
• Lemon Juice
• Rhubarb bitters
• Garnish: Orange Peel
• Glass: Martini
– In a shaker filled with ice combine vodka, cherry juice and bitters. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange peel.

*Where to imbibe: Angeline by Michael Symon

*Perfect pairing: Italian Sausage Sub

INTERVIEW: 5 Questions with Michael Martocci, the Singer Behind Sinatra Meets The Sopranos

January 25, 2019 by Carie York Leave a Comment

Borgata guests will be able to celebrate two iconic entertainment legends together at The Event Center. Enjoy the sounds of Frank Sinatra by tribute artist Michael Martocci and his Ol’ Blue Eyes Orchestra as they perform all of the hits. As if that is not enough, he’ll be joined by members of the cast of the television hit series The Sopranos. Steven Schirripa (Bobby ‘Bacala’), Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti) and Vincent Pastore (‘Big Pussy’ Bonpensiero) will take Borgata guests behind the scenes of the legendary show – the stories, the drams, the laughs – not to mention the countless theories about the show’s controversial finale! It’s Sinatra Meets The Sopranos, and it’s coming to Atlantic City on February 9 starting at 8PM!

We had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Martocci to discuss his love for Sinatra and to get a sneak peek of the extravaganza coming to Atlantic City!

Whose idea was it for you to pair up with the stars of  The Sopranos?  Steve Shirripa and I grew up a few blocks away from each other.  He called me and he was talking about how he did a show in Detroit with Michael [Imperioli] and Vinny [Pastore].  They hired them to tell some stories about the show and people loved it.  They got an offer after to come to Australia to come in May to tour six or seven cities. They have a video that opens the first few minutes of the evening that shows them getting [killed on the show] at one point or another, and then the show opens and they all walk out.  At the same time, I was approached by the Count Basie Theatre to come up with a Sinatra show, and we thought, why not do Sinatra and The Sopranos, the two biggest Italian names in entertainment? It’s the best of both worlds, and it’s the 20th Anniversary of The Sopranos, which we can piggy back off of.

Sinatra’s music is so legendary—what about it makes a classic, a standard?  It is very simple—the lyrics, the music behind it, the instrumentation, and the person who interpreted it.  Everything today is done in a studio with a computer. Very rarely do members of the band see the singers. In the old days, Sinatra’s music was like a concert in the studio. Everyone was there—the singer was in the middle, and they recordered. It’s so genuine when it coms out.  When someone plays an instrument, you can get the feeling they put into it. Music has a real human factor to it and it appeals to people’s lives.

Even though The Sopranos ended it’s run years ago, people still love it.  What about that show makes people still so interested? First of all, the story line and the writing is fantatic. You can relate to these characters, and people have always been intrigued with mobster stories in motion pictures.  The cast just came together. The Sopranos is being re-found by Millenials who have never seen it—the show has a whole new market. People are watching it on their laptops and their tablets. Something like that is never going to go out of style.

You’re performing this show at Fountainbleau in Miami in march—that’s a pretty iconic location for such a program! We’re going to perform in the room where Sinatra performed all of the time—The Fountainbleau Ballroom.  I’ve performed there before. Now we’re bringing these Soprano actors in there and it’s going to be incredible.

Do you think your Borgata performances are going to attract a lot of fans given that The Sopranos was mostly filmed in NJ? What we want to do is make it special for these audiences.  I don’t want to spill the beans too much.  The show is about getting to know these guys and their characters, getting to know these guys as individuals, talking about that final episode and wanting to know how it ends, and sharing some funny stories that you’ve never heard before.

Tickets to Sinatra Meets The Sopranos are now on sale via this link.
