St. Baldrick’s is having one of their signature “head shaving” events at Borgata on Friday, March 15 from 10-6. All Shavees can join Borgata anytime that day at The Signature Room, with easy access from surface parking. No appointments are necessary, but Shavees can confirm an appointment with a Spa Concierge by calling 609-317-7555.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s events have helped raise $253 million for lifesaving childhood cancer research.
Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer – about the time needed to log onto your laptop, order a coffee, or get through a TV commercial break. It’s also about the same amount of time it takes to have your head shaved to support childhood cancer research here at Borgata.
Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined. Leading pediatric oncology experts work with St. Baldrick’s to determine research priorities, which help kids of all ages and with all types of childhood cancers.
More than 50,000 people step up as shavees each year at St. Baldrick’s events across the country. With those kinds of numbers, licensed barbers or cosmetologists are always in demand to volunteer.
St. Baldrick’s at Borgata is just one of many events that highlight Borgata’s dedication to the community. In 2018 alone, the resort offered $347K in charitable sponsorships and donations, and made a $500K investment to Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City from MGM Resorts International. Borgata team members also saved 753 lives by blood donations.
