This March, Borgata celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring their phenomenal female team members. Throughout the month, Borgata is profiling associates who truly define what it means to be not only a remarkable woman, but a remarkable employee. In this post, we’re highlighting team members who work in our Accounting and Operations departments.
Sue Daigle, Director of Revenue Management
Where do you volunteer and how has it impacted you? I volunteer with my daughter’s school activities and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. They have shown with a small amount of time, you can make a difference for many people.
What is the one piece of advice you received which has changed your life? Step out of your comfort zone.
How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do for a living? She’d be surprised that I work with numbers daily.
What is the career highlight you are most proud of? Becoming Lead GM at The Water Club.
What is your favorite activity in your current position and how often do you get to do it? I love solving issues that we may have in The Water Club tower or within the grounds shop.
Where do you volunteer and how has it impacted you? I work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, plus relational sports for Mullica Township and The Living Faith Church. All of this is for children. It warms my heart to see how happy they become after participating in any given activity.
What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before? Go sky diving.
Anna Marino, Locksmith Lead
How do you feel you impact the people around you? I feel that I am a positive role model by fostering professionalism in the work place.
Who is someone that you really admire? Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”
If someone were to play you in a movie, who would you want it to be? I would pick Katherine Hepburn.
Apryl Donnelly, Manager of K-9 Unit
What is your favorite activity in your current position and how often do you get to do it? It has always been a pleasure to work with security staff and see them take pride in their work. There is great satisfaction when employees take pride in their job. Helping them achieve this has always been my favorite part of my job.
Who is someone you really admire? The Borgata has so many samples of people who I admire. I would start with Signe Huff and Becky Schultz. Both are extremely intelligent, hardworking, and charismatic. I have tremendous respect for them.
What qualities do you value in the people with whom you work? My direct report, Michael Schultz, is a very supportive individual. I believe the qualities are strength, focus, and kindness.
What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before? I am very focused on developing the K-9 program. I believe I will have many new experiences in the next year.
Michelle Palmisano, Accounting Manager
Who is someone you really admire? I admire my mother. She is a kind hearted, hardworking, and selfless woman who always put other people’s needs in front of her own.
What’s the first career you dreamed of having as a child? I always dreamed of being an astrophysicist. Growing up, I was fascinated with physics and objects in the universe.
What qualities do you value in the people with whom you work? I value when a coworker is honest, optimistic, supportive, and trustworthy. I believe these are core qualities that lead to a successful business relationship.
Twanda Wallace, Surveillance Operator
What is your favorite activity in your current position and how often do you get to do it? Surveillance is always finding new ways to identify weakness and vulnerabilities that affect the casino. Our goal is to enhance our knowledge and training technique to safeguard the property. Each activity plays a role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the company.
What is the one piece of advice you received which has changed your life? To continue to run my race in life no matter what life throws my way, to let my light shine bright, every day.
What is one thing about you that surprises others? I am a great cook!
Lizbeth Purilla, Wardrobe Manager
What is the career highlight you are most proud of? Working through the opening of The Water Club was one of the most challenging and rewarding times of my career at Borgata. I had the pleasure to work with a great team and camaraderie within departments was at the highest levels. We were all a unified team.
Where do you volunteer and how has it impacted you? I volunteer with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, with Red Cross, and with Gilda’s Club. It feels good to know the little time you put in to each task can help someone else.
If someone were to play you in a movie, who would you want it to be? Michelle Rodrigues from Fast and the Furious.
How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do for a living? She would be surprised I’m living in a different country, speaking a different language, and happy that I have three wonderful kids.
